Hi Sweetstuff and welcome to the community!

There's several different ways you can add custom cursors/mouse pointers to your website. One of the most popular ways is through CometCursor:
http://cometcursor.cometsystems.com/

After you download the software, CometCursor will give you directions on adding a specific cursor to your website.

Or you may CSS styles for a custom cursor, a script which you type directly into your specified HTML document. Here's directions for one specific script:
http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/script2/customcursor.shtml

Or if you just want to use a mouse trailer, you can view a few here:

   Only problem with cometcurser, is that it will ask the visitor to download cometcurser in order for them to see it. In some cases, this is not too well recieved.  It may be better to go with one of the second two options... but yup yup, cometcurser is an option.

It depends on what you plan on doing with this site. If it's a business oriented site, I would stay away from the comet cursor. However, if it's just for your family or friends, I don't think it will affect much.

If you plan on applying for awards and use a cometcursor on your site... Good luck.

I probably should have mentioned this in my first post, but I didn't want to start lecturing on the good and bad when all you wanted to know is how to put them on your site. Glad Matt brought it up.

hey you don't have to use CometCursor if you don't like, you can easily define some of standart windows cursors using CSS.
here is example:
Quote
<style type="text/css">
body{
cursor:TYPE}
</style>
as a type you can use this parameters:
auto - Shows it according to how the viewer has it set (plain)
crosshair - Looks like a cross
default - Makes the cursor stay the same
move - Looks like you should be moving something
hand - The hand you usually see over links
help - A question mark beside the arrow
text - The bar you see when the mouse is over text
wait - The "waiting" hourglass!
n-resize - An arrow- North
s-resize - An arrow- South
e-resize - An arrow- East
w-resize - An arrow- West
ne-resize - An arrow- NorthEast
nw-resize - An arrow- NorthWest
se-resize - An arrow- SouthEast
sw-resize - An arrow- SouthWest

Hi Larry... Was there something you wanted to say?
I think you forgot to add your own message, all I see is a quote from Matt999.
