I'm sure that you all heard about SCO's new offer; $699 for a single-CPU running any Linux box.  Presumably, if you license with SCO, then you don't have to worry about its lawsuit and various IP (intellectual property) rights problems associated with Linux.  I have no intension of paying that much money to SCO, but I'm just wondering how other people are responding to the news.  Links are ...

wow, that's look a bit scary  Shocked and very unfair IMHO... seems that SCO is eager to money as M$...  I'm don't really know infrastracture of Linux too good but it seems that many sources mention that parts of code which was provided from Linux is useful only for mutliprocessor servers but SCO seems wish to charge everyone...
hope that Red Hat win this fight as even staff of SCO doesn't support actions provided by the rulers of this company...
Thanks whiteRabbit for sharing this info.

Yes, interesting reading.  But why do many of these things have to get into court before they are resolved Roll Eyes
Its only talking also in court, and things should be made  easier all round for everyone if talking was before court fight. Yes?

I think it's ridiculous to charge for a license to use Linux. It's not our problem if the developers used the UVS source code without permission. Punishing customers based on their unconscious purchases is illogical.

Infact, anyone who decides they cannot afford a license and will no longer use the software should be entitled to a full refund. (Applying to those who paid retail)

I thought this moment would never happen but looks like Novel finally hit last nail in SCO's coffin, and SCO has had to declare chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Hopefully soon they went out of business, and this example would make think other companies who try to earn money on lawsuits.

They won't go out of business because they are doing a reorganization bankruptcy which will allow them to dump off the debt incurred via the lawsuit business. Hey they may even be able to get the Government to bail them out the way Chrysler did years ago.
