Ever now and then I do a simple Google search to see what backlinks are coming back to my FreeBacklink site.

Some of my boost in traffic lately might have something to do with links like this: http://twitter.com/Euphoriaplant

Of course, with the site at a PR3 and pushing closer to 100,000 on Alexa, it generates its own backlinks from visitors to the site.

Offering something free for webmasters is a gimme for getting backlinks, but what other methods do you use that have been successful in getting others to link to you automatically?

The best method now is probably Themes for Blogs IMO.

But I started out by providing a viral hit counter where even sites that didn't support PHP would still link back via the test script.

I do a google search to find quality sites in the niche of my website. Then I ask them to exchange links. Smiley
