In another thread about an article writer with inflated claims (my opinion) I made a comment about the internet today (again, my opinion) and it having become more of a misinformation superhighway with websites loaded with keyword optimized articles only designed to rank in search engines without regard to the content of the articles.

There are many writers (I guess that's what they call themselves) churning out 300 and 500 word articles without an ounce of research for barely a penny on the word, and these articles are posted on websites to pull in traffic for the keyword searches while someone who is actually an expert on a subject may have their articles lost in the shuffle as they know their subject more than they know how to optimize for search engines.

Which is more important: keyword optimization, or good information? Do they go hand in hand?

Most of my sites on the internet have just been more junk cluttering the internet. I have my one photography site where I have parked my articles, but I have been absent from photography so much that what is there is pretty much as far as it is going to go. Those articles took the better part of a day or two each to write, and to fact check myself, regardless of my experience in photography, I did research for each and every article.

What would be a more common photography article that someone would churn out for pennies on a word?

Point your camera at the subject making certain that they are in the center of the frame; having a Nikon camera would be your best choice, but a Pentax, Minolta, or Canon would be good choices too. If it is too dark, use flash; like a Vivitar or Sunpak flash. Stand perfectly still to prevent blur, or use a Velbon, Bogen, or Slik tripod, and take the picture.

Any moron could have written the overly obvious and poor information above (and I think I just proved that point by writing it). The only thing that is written for is keywords; it lacks any real information, but would be more likely to get hits from the search engines due to keyword optimization. Is this what you want to find when searching for information on a subject?

My new blog, of which the subject was actually Andy's suggestion, is probably my only real site on the internet. Yesterday, I wrote an article just over 1400 words. I was not writing for any word count, that's just where I ended when I said what I wanted to say. Right now it is a good fit as it is a subject is which I have an interest and am expanding on that interest with where I am moving.

Keywords over real content?

I work some keywords in, but I'll put a premium on the content of my blog over keywords.

Interesting that the blog started out of an idea to start niche blogs using plr articles or my own hacked articles on subjects, and it just went its own way into something that I'm more concerned about being true to my own content.

Are you contributing to the internet, or to the clutter someone has to wade through?

I've largely contributed to the clutter; let's see what something real might accomplish.

I think the way to go is to produce high quality content on your flagship sites and SEO a network of other sites pointing traffic to that site. They don't have to contain junk, but have more emphasis on SEO.

Google still needs these low quality sites for the Adsense content network.

Actually, when it comes to making your website rank higher in the search engine, both of them that you have mentioned is the essence of making it to the top. Keyword research and quality contents are both important and they should be used together. One you got a few keywords in hand, you should used them to write quality contents and when people search for a specific niche, your page will eventually appear if Google thinks that its quality is good enough.

I agree with you since today the internet are packed with low quality content, especially those MFA sites. Usually these sites are with very good seo so that they can rank well in search engine. But crappy contents just give viewers very bad experience. However, I don't think search engine will crack down these sites soon. The fact is that search engineer is a business not a pure technology.

As you say, nowadays search engines categorize the content and if it's bloat content they low the page rank. Both keywords and content are important, so if you have both of them you will be doing a good job contributing to a good internet. If not you are just bloat-ware-content-person.

My purpose is to educate consumers about health care. Of course, in 2014, I might be doing something different! We'll see how Obamacare hold up.

The Internet is useful for sharing text, images, sounds and videos and for gaining knowledge and learning new things.
