I am thinking to offer hosting of blogs on subdomain URLs and include tools to help subscribers create the content for their blogs.

So without the domain registration and ability to have anything other than a blog on your site, can I still call this hosting?

I have seen instances where online companies give free subdomains to small businesses using their e-commerce script (they make money from ads) and still refer to it as hosting.

In your case as well, I think it's perfectly legitimate to refer to it as hosting. Maybe it's just a subdomain, but you're still giving the client space on your server, tools, and a blog.

Thanks for the replies.

Wordpress.com and Blogger.com do the same thing.

Thanks to Menard I have a nice short domain name to use so the subdomain that members claim will stand out.

This will be a paid hosting service since it will be a commercial venture where I provide tools for members to quickly target trends and match them to affiliate offers with a professional-looking blog-based site. For people I know and trust, you can get a free account. Also you don't have to monetize the site.

More news later ...

Sure, this is hosting but just not general web hosting.  This seems to me like niche / specialized hosting, "blog hosting."  As long as you refer to it in that sense and not in the general web hosting sense, then it seems it would be an accurate description.

Yeah, I think I will refer to it as "blog hosting". Now it seems that all marketers realize that they need a blog and the setup may be off-putting to some.

My business partner was recently interviewed on web TV regarding the new project  Wink

That was somewhat of an odd interview.  It was just one question with animated characters and computer voice modulation.  All they asked was why the particular domain was used & that was the end of the interview...

Maybe the wrong file was posted?

John - I put it up as a test to guage people's reactions to the format. I should have mentioned that. I am thinking to make several animations if people think they are OK. 2 of my "friends" were very negative about it though. Personally I have seen far worse videos such as text plus music or text plus playback of a telephone call.

The software to create this was from http://www.xtranormal.com they also have a more feature rich online version.

I'm a bit iffy on the format, but if you do make a longer interview make sure to post it here and I'll let you know what I think.

Thanks, I will.

btw. with video being an important aspect of online marketing now, this service gives us a relatively easy way to create original videos to publish online. Even if some people don't like the format, I think they will like the information contained in the videos. And they are real videos as opposed to the videos of text and audio tracks IMO.

Before, I have produced videos with a camcorder and uploaded to the web, but I don't have the actor skills to present well in person, so I am looking for ways to use technology to replace myself. I could also outsource the job I guess but that would involve paying out money before the profits roll in.

With the animations, real voices could be dubbed on top, also we can get the characters to walk around and move more.

is there a problem with the link because it tells me file not found? Is the problem at me or with the link?

You could call it Blog Hosting. Make sure people are informed of what they're getting though, state they don't get root access, domain panel access, etc.
