I watched an episode of Pen and Teller today where a guy that was suffering financial hardship decided to prioritize paying his Gas and Electricity bills rather than wasting water on the lawn. But his neighbors took him to court since his brown grass was devaluing their homes and he spent 2 days in Jail until some other kind-hearted citizens restored his lawn and he was freed.

Ridiculous I think!

I agree.    And I live in America in the Land of the Free!

But I know of neighborhoods right  in this area  that are like that.

Haven't heard of anyone being jailed though.

Yeah, you will remain free as long as you water your plants! Watch out for those pot plants on your balcony Bev.

Never buy a home that's been tangled into a Homeowners Association. Those people are heavy-handed and ridiculous.

I can see a home association getting over zealous and causing problems but I can't imagine the law arresting someone for not watering their lawn. I suspect there is more to the story than that.

This guy failed to pay fines so served time in Jail. Some neighbors outside of his community bailed him out and re-turfed the lawn.

What next, jail for not shaving?
