I have been using Xampp to modify Oscommerce for a client's shop. I have completed all modifications to the to the PHP files (including the addition of several new database tables). How do I go about transferring the files from my PC to the server? This is the first time I have done something like this. I usually work directly with the server.

I am guessing it will be this:

1. Backup database using phpmyadmin
2. Install oscommerce on server
3. "Restore" database from saved Xampp files
4. Upload all other oscommerce files from my computer to the server.

There are two configuration files that need to be edited for use on the server; but I figured if I installed oscommerce already, I would just use the configuration files created on the server rather than modifying the Xampp ones.

Did I miss anything? Do I even need to install oscommerce again, or just use the backed up database files?

Ihaven't worked with Oscommerce, but what you described sounds reasonable to me. However,

When exporting (backing up) your data, you might want to select the REPLACE option and save it in text format.

You might want to Export the online database data in case this contains file paths etc. stored in the database.

If the script then runs with errors, you can look at the table data for such things as URLs being incorrect. Then you can cut and paste the MySQL statements from the exported text file into the SQL field under the SQL tab of PHPMyAdmin and run the SQL queries to fix the table concerned.

Or manually edit any incorrect data you spot when browsing the data.
