Nothing special here, just another forum.

http://dot666.com

Installed SMF with Fantastico and found a free theme for it. I'll be working on a logo later.

I've been considering putting a forum on this domain to make use of the domain. What got me to do it at this time was someone from another forum, where the admin and myself had a falling out, had contacted me and was asking about me and said others were as well; so I set this up in case any of them wanted to contact me (doubtful that more than one or two will. if that).

Being that I have set this up and really don't have an outline for it, as far as individual forums go, I have just a general discussion forum and will just build it from others' suggestions; for now anyway, until I'm ready to define it more and promote it.

Wondering about the name of the forum.

Should I stick with the domain name in dot666 forums or call it something like The Devil's Message Board?

Any suggestions? (be kind) Tongue

Call it the Devil's Massage Request Board IMO  Grin Get traffic at all costs. Then monetize it accordingly and recruit sponsors from the streets around your place.

I have pretty much settled into 3 forums for now on dot666: a general discussion forum for pretty much everything; a goofing off forum for silly threads like synonyms, antonyms, story threads and the such to keep them out of the main forum; and a forum business area just for admin updates, complaints, etc.

Until I get some suggestions that sound ideal to me for separate forums, I'm pretty comfortable with just leaving it at 3 forums for now.

Sorry to be a bit blunt, but I think you would be better off going for a niche and cultivating that rather than such a generalized forum. Otherwise you will not be able to get targeted Ads on it since there is no focus. Also, the topics are likely to be fully serviced by other established forums. Better to stick with your new blog about camper vans IMO.

I don't disagree with you. Right now I am just keeping it simple as it is mostly a contact forum; the 3 other active members there are from other forums I either inhabit or used to inhabit.

My original intent was to aim for a game discussion forum, or something along that lines which would fit with the domain. It probably will still lean that way. The domain itself will probably determine who is attracted to it, and who will find it on search engines, more than anything else; just my guess, though.

Well, if you only want a place to interact with people, it should be fine. I did the same kind of thing by creating my own webmaster forum where I post regularly to build my own mass of content and am not too fussed about traffic but it is nice to build and own your own site that gets traffic and can leveraged later.

I'm frankly wanting to turn it into a niche forum, I only jumped the gun on it due to someone from the old forum contacting me and used it as a contact forum since I had planned to use the domain for a forum anyway.

I'm looking into adding a second category of discussion forums, more specific than the general discussion, along the lines of either an 'interests' or 'entertainment' category. Forums within that category would be something like 'video games', 'movies', and probably something else. Rather than create a board full of forums cluttering the index page, I'll just create child forums within the forums themselves according to interest.

I'm thinking that the domain would work best toward a dark, or horror, entertainment forum.

I have updated the forum with the addition of an entertainment category and three forums in that category: Games, Movies and TV, and In Print.

I am considering rather than use that envelope symbol (whatever it is suppose to be) for post notifications, using 6s instead; probably a plain 6 for no new posts and a crimson 6 for new posts.

That way the forums will look like:

6
6
6

6
6
6

Kind of goes with the domain.

Well...since I posted this today I have changed things a bit.

I have 10 forums on the board in 3 categories.

Rather than expand on it here, if anyone is interested, you can check it out at http://dot666.com

I am staying with more of a dark entertainment niche, though it could just as easily be called a general entertainment forum.

Well it looks good apart from the lack of a logo IMO. Maybe a magnet to Gothics?

Kind of leaving that open ended. Certainly I think that is a potential draw, as well to the gaming crowd with horror gaming being so popular.
