I have come into some good fortune in that I have been living on a fixed income from retirement from the government. However! I have reached the age that I part of my income is supposed to come from Social Security. I new this was coming and expected to loose some money and I did loose $476 from my government retirement but it seems the Social Security money is more than I thought to the amount of $1188.00 that makes an increase over all of $712.00 per month for gas and fun. This very nice change has given me a real good chance to play with my new toy. Which is a TomTom GPS Navigator. I have been doing a lot of driving around Texas back roads (now I can pay for gas). Some times I pick a small town on the TomTom and let it guide me there using avoid toll roads and free ways. Most of the time I just start driving following my nose for 2 - 4 hours and then let TomTom take me home by a different rout. It is quite relaxing and fun. I also bought a new AA1 with the 10.1 inch screen and a six cell battery that last a goo 5 - 6 hours so sometime I stop a a park and spend time playing with it. I also got a new Olympus Fe 5010 camera that I try and use on the road but so far haven't made any pics worth posting but I will when I take some. Well thats what I have been up to.

That's pretty neat. I'm glad you've been having fun.

I never thought of using a GPS navigator just to take different routes home.. but I guess you can use it for any reason, can't you?

I'd definitely like to see some of those pictures. I am not much of a photographer myself, so do not worry about me viewing those pictures with an overly critical eye. Wink

What I have been up to...

I have been working towards getting all of my forms filled out and classes registered for the next semester. If everything goes smoothly, I will be leaving in about 7 weeks for Alamosa, Colorado.

Other than that, I have been taking care of stuff around the house and working...

Don, it's great that you are actually living out your retirement years the way it is meant to be. Better than working part-time jobs, still working for a boss I think.

Last night a guest to my dinner party used GPS to navigate to our postal code but unfortunately they entered the digits incorrectly and ended up near the ocean miles away Grin But they got to our house eventually after a few directions via cell phone to eat a few scraps of food.

Menard, Menard, Menard, what am I to do with you. Smiley You need to see a doctor about your swiss cheese eyes that only let you see parts of what is written and to see if the doctor can get that rotten little devil off your shoulder.

Yes being able to enjoy this time of my life was the main goal of my working 32+ years. With the TomTom you can enter a postal code but not to a house but only to a city or area. What I also found I like to do is find a Longitude and Latitude and have TomTom take me there. It is real cool to see the unnamed roads that show up and where they can take you. It is also great that if I have a problem I can use my cell phone and give rescuers the Longitude and Latitude of where I am. Of course I am driving a Rondo with less than 19000 miles so there is not much chance of a problem.

Interesting! The Hog looks like it's recently been killed, so OK to roast?

great pictures! You are really having fun.

Well Olympus always sucked big time for me if I used mine or of a friend. Try Canon I guess - SX10 is simply great - http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Powershot-SX10IS-Digital-Stabilized/dp/B001G5ZTZO

That's fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

By the way, did you (or anyone else on the forum) get my message about Myspace pictures? I uploaded some of my vacation pictures to Myspace-- it had a feature that allowed non-registered users to view the photos. I was just wondering if anybody saw them.

Almost no one because it is a non-paved road that is just used between country neighbors of farms and ranches. The cool thing is that TomTom sees these roads and when I tell it to pick a route and then tell it to take the shortest route and then tell it to avoid the main roads it picks then I get to try these kind of roads. I was trying to get to Hogg Texas as it seemed a real out of the way place, but I never got there yet since that road is just a circular road of about 10 miles long. TomTom tried to tell me to turn but there was a gate there and so that route was closed to me.
