I found this great program and felt I should share it.

fSekrit is a small application for keeping encrypted notes.

The real advantage of fSekrit is that notes are truly self-contained; the editor program and your note are merged together into a tiny self-contained program file, removing the need to install a special application to view your data. Another advantage of using fSekrit is that your un-encrypted data is never stored on your harddisk.

fSekrit runs on Windows 9x/2k/XP/VISTA and Linux running Wine.

Very easy to use, just type in your text and click on file save. You will be asked where to save it and a name for the file then after you click on save then you are ask for a password and to confirm the password. Then suppose you move that file only to another computer that does not have the program on it but you want to open the file. Just click on it and type in the password and it opens. You can't get any easier.

You can get it via ....

That sounds like a useful app Don, thanks for sharing. I use a password keeper program that has a notes field, so this is another way to store encrypted notes that many people may already have but maybe didn't think about storing notes there. Also there is archiving software such as WinRAR that can zip up files and password protect them, plus OpenOffice.org can produce password protected PDF files.

I downloaded it too for future use when I am traveling with my data on a USB stick.

It's good how it avoids writing even temporary unencrypted data to the hard disk during editing.

I have downloaded it, and it's awesome, it saves as .exe the file you have created, so it saves itself in the file to open it. It's nice. Thanks for sharing.

The link still works but you have to click on the link fSekrit at the front of the paragraph or the end of the paragraph.
