On Ubuntu/Linux I had a problem after installing Subversion (SVN). I created a repository in my home folder but made the mistake of using SUDO so the files in the repository became locked to the root user rather than me. So when trying to import files to the repository, I got a "Permission Denied" message, even though it was a folder in my home area. This has nothing to do with the usual file permissions that you can change with CHMOD, but the way SVN assigns file ownership to the user that created the repository and locks them to others.

So to fix this, I deleted the repository (with sudo rm -r folder) and recreated it with the command line: svnadmin create /home/user/svn for example i.e. without using SUDO. Then tested with RapidSVN to import a file to the repository.

p.s. the local machine URL for the repository is then file:///home/user/folderName Note, that their are 3 slashes after file:
