Was anybody doing a search this morning during the embarrassing error?

I was.

For almost an hour, every search came up with a result that 'this site may harm your computer'.

Despite the hilarity of it for those who understood it was a glitch, I wonder what kind of backlash it may have had on some sites not getting clickthrus due to the mistake?

Google should, IMO, put a notice about the error on their search page.

They do have a blog entry about it, though: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/01/this-site-may-harm-your-computer-on.html

Google should expand on these warnings IMO such as:

  • this site may harm your wallet
  • this site may harm your marriage
  • this site maybe unsuitable for adults
