Hi,

I already have a sitemap for my usual files. Google suggest here (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=74288) that you should create a sitemap for news. Should this be in addition to the regular Google sitemap?

This is the first that I heard about this, but if big G recommend you do it, then it seems like a good idea if you have genuine news that you want to be tagged as news results in search queries.

But if you are gaming the system with stuff that does not appear to be actual news, you may have a problem following a human review. Big G employ people to check out websites to improve the quality of the results.

In your case I think you are dealing in cars, so news about a new model of Porsche available for viewing at your dealership would be news if you write the news release IMO. But if it is news about an update to a sales page, it may not be considered news.

Hi Andy,

What i'm asking is if you should add 2 sitemaps. One regular one for the site and an additional one for News i.e.

www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml
www.mysite.com/newssitemap.xml

It doesn't seem like a good idea to me to have 2 site maps. I would go with just the news if you actually post news.

If your other pages are easily found via search engines such as via regular HTML navigation links then you should not need a site map.

I rarely use site maps at all personally since big G is very good at finding content even content behind a submit button or pages that require login (if you permit them in Adwords).

Wow very interesting topic.  I will do some research in this area myself and let you know what my findings are.
