I actually wasn't looking for this domain, but was scanning through some available domains, looking for a specific one that is due to come out of redemption period soon, and happened upon this one; it became available 2 days ago.

By 'local domain' I mean that it is applicable to the state in which I live which is Kentucky, and the abbreviation for Kentucky is KY, by which the state is often referred (one of few states actually called by its abbreviation).

The domain is 4KY.org

I don't have any plans for making some big site out of it. I think I'll just get some information about Kentucky (history, state parks, tourism, entertainment, etc.), which will be easy enough to get, and publish it on the site; ideally to get it recognized as an authority site, and get local business interested in being linked from it, or even featured on it.

Still waiting out the redemption period on the other domain (a dotcom). If my estimates are correct, it is at day 61 past its expiration date, which means it could have up to 14 days left.

I like the domain name. Consider searching for public domain content that you can re-purpose on the site.

local is a pseudo-top-level domain used in multicast domain name service (mDNS) of zero configuration networking discovery protocols. Apple's Bonjour implements mDNS, as does Avahi. The .local domain was also recommended by Microsoft for the configuration of Microsoft Windows Active Directory environments as a top-level Domain Name System (DNS) domain for an internal organizational network that is not intended to be reachable directly from the public Internet.
