I recently registered a dotcom, and while I was at it, being that name.com has been running a .cn special (99 cents for the first year, or 25 cents when you register any other domain at regular price) I grabbed one.

Probably pointless.

The regular domain I registered is CybikoExplorer.com (it's just the template up for now)

I have been wanting to get a domain for my Cybiko fan site and finally settled on a name. This is the first domain I have registered for a while as I have been letting my domains drop like flies.

While I was at it, and being that .cn domains were on special, I checked to see if Cybiko was available, and it was. So I registered it and parked my old Cybiko fan site there at Cybiko.cn

I guess you really have to have a Cybiko to be a fan. I think there are three of us around the globe.

Anybody else have a .cn domain?

See any use for one?

I think they might be useful for PPC marketing where you want a keyword-relevant domain name in the display URL. The .cn is nice and short, plus it is like a misspelling of .com so it may not even be noticed by the person reading the Ad.

Hmm... not sure if this means much, but spammers like to use the .cn extension. That being said, they seem to love the .info, .org, and .ua, and .ru extensions as well. I ban quite a handful of all these at WK.

.CN spam in particular seems to be an epidemic in the Google search engines. Many of these sites contain malware and viruses. Would knowledgeable webmasters be hesitant to access your site?

I like your original domain, CybikoExplorer.com, better anyway.

It seems to be no problem. I found Menard's site in a big G search. Oh, but it is the .com version

I am getting a lot of spam from .cn domains. Also I see .cn in the URLs of my hacked sites and email spam. So, don't expect me to visit China or use their airlines any time soon!

I assume that .CN domain names might have some specific rules for registration in the zone. Anyway such rules might change one day. I prefer operate with general domain names.

.cn wouldn't be likely to be clicked on by many American users, there's not a lot of trust for that TLD.

I don't think you should hold the .cn domain. Renewal price is high.

Even now it's still possible to register useful dot com names. But you may need to include a dash.

.cn would obviously be useful for businesses in China that need a web presence and want people to know that they are based there (to export goods for example) but for the rest of us I don't see the point since the web content may be censored and even dynamically changed by government server scripts so we can't be sure that what we are seeing is what the webmaster intended IMO.

Jeeze, more Chinese crap ...

Find out how to really advertise via text online with The Best Website Articles Submission Software. It's pointless spamming forums, article marketing is what is working for 100's of 3/5/6 figure a month internet marketers right now. Spamming forums just lines you up for a bullet through the head from annoyed Eastern European website owners IMO.

Funny you mention that. When I ran my travel forum, I use to see tons of spammers signing up with email addresses ending in .ru.

As for the .cn extension, I do not really have any use for it.  But I am sure someone out there might find some value in it.

The Chinese Registry has changed 2010 the conditions of registration. Only Chinese companies and foreign companies with chinese settlements can register cn-Domains. We provide a trustee in China, which register the cn-domains in your name. We will confirm, that you are the real owner of the registered domain name.
