Germany's churches criticised a businessman last month for selling thousands of Jesus chocolates.

http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/1128/chocolatejesus.html

'It is terrible that Jesus is being wrapped up in gold foil and sold along with chocolate bunnies, edible penguins and lollipops,' said Aegidius Engel, a spokesman for the archbishopric of nearby Paderborn.

Hmmm, so why is it ok to eat chocolate Santa, but not eat Jesus ?

It seems quite sacreligious...

Santa Claus is an idea, a folktale, and a light-hearted one at that. Jesus, on the other hand, is a religious symbol-- a god figure. Although many Christians (less Protestant, more Catholic) approve of artistic representations of Jesus, I'm pretty sure they would be uncomfortable with the "candy" version.

I imagine that if it were a representation of the Prophet Mohammed being manufactured in mass quantity and made into an edible form, Frank Oynhausen would have been brutally murdered by now.

... I'm not saying I justify that kind of response, I'm simply juxtaposing the responses of two "similar" religions.

There seems to be a fine line between a bit of harmless jest and mockery of another's values and beliefs. In this particular case, I think it may have been crossed.

I agree with Tamuril. In my opinion, people should respect religious stuff and not try to provoke responses off people or capitalize on some kind of controversy surrounding it.

Recently I was travelling on middle Eastern planes and consuming alcohol so I was a bit concerned to be doing this and asking airline staff for more, but it worked out fine. I need my beer and wine and I was discrete in requesting it from cabin crew in the sleep time and in the crew area. I love the wine on planes  Grin
