Winter is coming here and each year when I photograph something during cold time I've got hands which can't get warm for several hours(metabolism I guess), so I thought about getting myself hand warmer.
Right now I'm looking for  reusable hand warmer with gel(it's using sodium acetate) or running on lighter fuel as it have much longer span of working time. Didn't look for ones running on solid fuel as locally there is no chance to buy rods. Hand warmers are also not available anywhere in shops, when I ask about it in sport or fishing shops people become very curious as never heard about something like this.
So I'm going to find something on Ebay.

Wonder if anyone using some type of hand warmers and if so how do you find them?

I always use a pair of fleece gloves when i am out with the dog in winter although hand warming pads are probably a lot better now than when i last tried them i always found my knuckles were still cold.

Wonder what kind of warmers you tried and have you put them into pocket? guess that if pocket would be warm you'll be able to heat knuckles as well.

Going back a few years now cannot remember the brand but recall not being overly impressed with the heat output although they have probably come on in leaps and bounds since then especially the ones for sale in specialist outdoor and survival shops.

They are not too expensive so should be worth a try.

I've got a pair of leather gloves for my motorcycle, but generally i'm a warm type of person and don't need gloves. If anything it's my feet that get a little bit cold sometimes when i'm stood outside in the cold for a long time.

BTW Salopettes are good for keeping your body warm when stood out in the cold.

I've find out how to solve this problem, I simply put pair of old style mustard plasters to my socks and they give soothing warm when I don't move.

thanks, but buying pants for 1/3 of my salary doesn't sounds like a cool investment Grin

Yup, i'm a warm person. I spend a lot of time sat on the floor at home because it's cooler on the floor and my wife likes to have the heating on because she's cold.

I'll have to have a look at those plasters and pass the advice on to my wife.

The alternative to salopette would be to put some woman's nylon stockings on under your trousers. What ever you do, don't get run over or taken to hospital or anything though because they will think your a bit strange. The nylon stockings do work though. Not as though i use them... Well i might have done once when it was very cold and i was working outside.

I am considering investing in a pair of heated gloves not sure if they would help or hinder you as far as taking photos is concerned.

Probably less affect than a cellphone kept in a pants pocket.

I've got a pair of leather gloves for my motorcycle...

Gloves would be my recommendation, Denis. The body produces its own heat, the problem with cold weather is that it cools the body faster than it can recover body heat.

Keeping warm clothing on the trap the heat better will keep you warm. Several layers of clothing work well for this, and socks too; provided you don't mind looking like you put on 30 pounds or so. Grin

Lined leather or vinyl gloves can work well to keep the hands warm; especially vinyl as it doesn't breathe like leather does. I used to have a pair of lined vinyl gloves when I was a kid, and I would have to take them off on occasion, even when playing in the snow, because they made my hands sweat.

The feet are an issue for me as well. I have some thick hunter's sock I wear that help with that, and doubling up the socks helps. Even though I prefer cotton socks, I'll wear nylon, acrylic, or polyester socks on the inside next to the skin as it does not absorb sweat and so doesn't become wet and create another problem when outside in the cold.

If you happen to be outside and get cold, if a woman walks by, just grab her and wrap your arms around her. This should help you to warm up; especially if her husband is around, as the exercise you get from running will help you to warm up even faster. Grin

I'm using gloves all the time and they are only effective if I wear them inside home and don't wear off outside, otherwise hands get cold pretty quickly and wouldn't recover heat because of poor blood circulation.

I avoid synthetic socks for many years but I'll try your advice and see if it works.
