For people that are not familiar with this, it is the 2008 kabonfootprint contest to get this search term ranked high in big G.

I did some initial work on the content of this site and many members of this forum have kindly linked to my site with the relevant keywords.

Part of this exercise is to show people that it is not so hard as they may think to get high rankings in search engines. Ideally, you pick a search term that many people are searching for but not many people actually build a site to target this phrase.

So far in the kabonfootprint competition I am at #13 in the search results out of 184,000 possible results.

So, you can see that many SEO-skilled people are competing here. In normal situations you don't have huge competition so you can simply apply basic SEO to your site and get into the top 10 rankings for your search terms without huge effort.

I already offered the bribe that if I see your site sending me me traffic in my visitor stats, I will add a link to your site in the home page credits that will last around 2 years.

As a further incentive, I am thinking that if your link is instrumental in helping my site get into page 1 of the search results for the last week of the contest, I will additionally, create an eBook that describes how we did it an give it away to you people and you can sell the eBook like a resale rights book if you like and I will not sell it or give it away myself.

I think we have 4 weeks to go...

It seems like this contest was cancelled  Tongue

Currently I am at #13

But I will still link to the sites that supported me from next month. If my site gains some authority in the search engines, the links may be of some value.

I posted my thoughts on the cancellation here: Kabonfootprint Contest Scam

wtf

They successfully completed a seo contest in past. He is a nice guy. It seems like a problem with sponsors. But thats no way to do it. Sucks big time for the contestants.

oops, I modified your post rather than replying to it in error - now back to normal - Andy

I thought the prize was a bit on the high side. It could be that some kind of trickery was going on to build links to the forum in order to sell it at a higher price.

I don't know anything about the integrity of the organizers. But some bad karma is coming towards that forum I suspect if they don't explain themselves better. I wouldn't want to slime off lots of people that are skilled in SEO and all the people that helped them in the contest.

Also, I am not wasting time reading threads there until October. Then I will read what is there and form my conclusions.

btw Manu, I don't have any problem with you suggesting this competition to me, you couldn't know what was going to happen.

Live and learn ...

Price was ok IMO. Low compared to other SEO contests in the past IMO. This was the reason for me not participating in it. The main benefits the organizers reap are not link selling but exposure of the forums, more users and of course higher se rankings. I still remember how the v7ndotcom elursrebmem seo contest made V7N one of the most popular destinations for webmasters on the Internet.

Aww, well that's disappointing. It seems you were working pretty hard to succeed in this competition. Sorry, Andy.

I didn't work too hard on it compared to how hard I work on other projects so I am not too fussed about it. I feel bad for the people that obviously did put a lot of work into it though.

I updated the Kabonfootprint site with a new template and linked to the sites that supported me. Now it looks a lot less boring than before I think Wink Hopefully with time it will gain some PR and authority to pass useful link juice.

Definitely like the new look. Hopefully some of your effort in the project will pay off.
