I was thinking about building a funny pictures site. Has anyone tried this?

I think I can find some interesting things to photograph here in Japan to kick things off such as the "family cut quarter" hair dressing salon and the men's beauty parlour.

Studying a scene and figuring how to turn it into a funny photo is maybe a skill to develop?

The idea came after reading (on Zac's blog http://zacjohnson.com/cashing-in-on-your-own-niche-market-ideas/ ) that one of these kinds of sites was bought for $2million.

You could fake some photos as well. Also, look around YouTube for funny stuff to feature.

Does anyone with a lot of their own funny photos or capabilities to take such photos want to collaborate with me on this project? I am happy to build and host the site.

We could rotate Ads to share the revenue.

I like the idea.

Maybe start out with something like sewer caps? They seem to have some pretty interesting ones in Japan. Or focus on something prosaic that, when taken out of context, could be pretty amusing.

Because of your location, I think you have a good opportunity to create some unique and humorous images.

Though you may be limited to finding scenes involving people and animals in Japans (due to the language) I have always found signs that weren't well thought out to be funny.

I was at one of these dollar stores in my state and they had the standard billboard sign for their store which, like any other dollar store, read "Nothing Over a Dollar". Underneath the sign hung a banner which advertised "50% Off", but with the inclusion of the disclaimer "Only on Items Over a Dollar".

An adult nightclub advertised a strip poker tournament on their sign board, apparently not realizing how the words "No Cover" would look combined with strip poker.

I have seen some scripts on sites that would allow visitors to do stuff like create their own church signs. The sign would be a picture of a sign from an actual church, but the message on the sign can be created by the visitor and posted on another site to show off, and consequently providing a backlink.

Where I live right now (Japan) is a goldmine of funny picture opportunities. The drink containers have some hilarious text on them. Can't wait to bring this information to the web  Grin

I just finished drinking Sake (rice wine) from this cool container.
