I decided to give the Traffic exchanges one last chance.

I set up a splash page where I track clicks on the image/text link on the page so I can check the click through ratio (CTR) of the page.

I am using 2 exchanges for the test. So far the splash page has been displayed about 200 times with no clicks so far.

I have 100's of credits available on the one traffic exchange and purchased 2880 credits on the other one. So this will be a very interesting test to finally see if these sites are scams or not.

My splash page is advertising a real way to make money online without hype and it is a clean and simple Ad that should surely convert views to clicks. I look forward to posting the results of this exercise in a few days time or whenever the credits are used up.

If you are actually trying to get sign-ups, the only ones I would recommend for such would be TrafficSwarm and HitMagik, which are similar though TrafficSwarm is the better, IMO. Linkrefferal is a good one and unique.

Most everything else I have tried are nothing but click generators that can be used to boost traffic to improve your rankings on topsites, banner exchanges, etc.

You can find links to TrafficSwarm and HitMagik at http://tep.z54.org/, though I would imagine you are probably already a member of one of those.

Linkreferral is linked on my front page at http://5g8.net.

I will probably fall into a lot of the same pitfalls that other traffic exchange owners do. I think there are a few out there who do intend to make their's work better, but end up becoming much the same as everyone else.

One of the main problems I see is that members don't have anything to look at (TrafficSwarm, HitMagik, and Linkreferral have systems that negate that and work more effectively), being that member see traffic exchanges as something that delivers traffic for clicks, and the objective is to keep clicking.

What I eventually want to turn HitSwamp/SwampHits (yes, it actually has two domains) into is a system that has a click ratio of 4 or 5 to 1, or maybe greater; which means that clicks are not what is going to pay off. What pays off is looking for things. There is a cast of characters (Swampgirl, Doctor Greengus, The Swamp Monster, among others) who will show up at random and offer bonus credits or a download; but it is not automatic and they actually have to do something to earn it, which may be anything from clicking a form button to visiting a random member's site for a set amount of time.

Of course, as with any site or intention, that may completely flop.

I guess the users of traffic exchanges are the lower percentile of the losers online (apart from you and me of course) since nothing I try converts to anything on them. The credits I purchased will kick in next month so have to wait. In the mean time I am throwing 300 views at a time to my offers and see if I get any response.

Now I am in phase of consolidation where I am moving away from time-wasting activities.
