Combining anchors with query strings in urls

Interestingly, I found that if I use URLs of the form url?var=value#anchor or url#anchor?var=value the anchor is lost. I only tested with Firefox so far.

Or could it be a bug with my url re-writing?

It is mostly an annoyance but it would be nice if it was possible to pass get variables in the query string and retain the functionality of an on-page anchor link. It works fine with post variables.

When using named anchors we can create links that can jump directly into a specific section on a page

I did a quick web search about the problem but didn't find any answers. One good snippet of info that I picked up though was that the anchor value is only used client-side i.e. by the web browser. So this could be something to do with why it is dropped when handling a url with a query string.
