I think it's important to develop multiple streams of income if you hope to make substantial income from the web.

Realistically, it is difficult to make much more than $100 per month from most activities online. And some methods of making money online will work better for you than others. So you need to set up several streams of income.

One of the biggest mistakes I think most people make is spending too much money on training and tools. So they don't make any profit. Some people spend nothing on training and make good money online. For example a PPC guy that only studied the free information provided by Google.

Also, for web hosting, I recommend you get a Hostgator account that allows you to host 100's of sites for a small monthly fee. The reseller option being the best choice since it is metered and not oversold. Also, I am not convinced that you have to use dot com domain names, dot info is cheaper and you can find a better available domain name.

The best way to start I think is by blogging about a topic that interests you and can be easily associated with marketable products such as gadgets. This will then start you on the road to building an authority site that will get ranked in the search engines and get good daily visitor traffic. You can Add Adsense to your blog to create the first source of income.

If your blog avoids the webmaster/marketing crowd, you should get clicks on Ads and make some money.

Next you can set up related sites that are mostly fixed content that steer people towards buying affiliate products for a second source of income. And use your blog to drive traffic to those sites.

This can get you started with creating multiple streams of income.

I personally find it difficult to keep adding new content to sites, so I advise you to stick to one blog and not waste too much time posting to other sites unless you are getting traffic from them. Building niche content sites is fun at first, but you may quickly get bored so you have to avoid setting up blogs and forums on every site you create, go for fixed content original articles on these sites.

Avoid adding Ads too soon to a site to allow your site to be taken seriously by search engines. There are a lot of spammy sites so you want to avoid giving tell tale signs that your new site is like these. By starting with an informational blog you will build a naturally growing resource site that will gain authority (respect of the search engines) that will later be great for linking out to your new sites.

I hope this helps you start on a firm foundation for your future web empire.
