If you want to build a killer website to explode your sales the way everyone goes about doing this is to hire a professional designer to do it. You tell them you want audios, videos, and flash to make your websites come alive. Well if you want all of this done you better be ready to dish out a few hundred if not thousands of dollars to do this. All of this can be changed if you just find the best deals, the best designs, and the best software and do it all yourself. Here is brief explanation:

First and foremost you have got to understand that it is a total rip off in my opinion to hire web designers to design websites for you. Why? Have you ever read a newspaper ad, read a magazine ad, or just seen a ad on the internet that offer a simple 5 page website for $500 or more!? They only charge this much money because they are established web companies that have loads of bills to pay: office space, web designer's wages, advertising, and it just goes on. So I say it is a rip off because you're paying to get your website built and pay their bills.

Therefore, it would be wise to find freelance designers who work from home. These people are often working from home so they do not have a high operation cost like that of a company. On the other hand, they will be able to design images with quality similar to those of designers from big companies, so it's a "no-brainer" choice.

Therefore, some people hire freelance web designers to build their websites for them. These are people who typically work out of home to stay away from all of the overheads as the big established companies. This gives them the ability to charge less. However, this still requires a lot of research because you have to find freelance designers a good record of producing killer websites. I still think this is a lot of work to do because you don't who to trust and who has what experience.

Another route you can take and this is the best way in my opinion is to just do it yourself. Think about this if you only need a 5 page website or more to just present some simple information, why even bother of wasting hundreds of dollars for someone else to do a half job on it? Just spend a little time and sit down and create a powerful website that comes alive to your visitors! So you don't have a clue where to begin? All you need is powerful web design software that can create eye popping websites with videos, audios, and cool html.

Many of the most successful marketers outsource all their design work so they can focus on marketing.

I don't think paying $100's for a site design is a rip off. My customers happily pay this since they get the SEO expertise, advice and coding customization as additional benefits, often for free. Also, it takes days of work to produce a website, so why is it a rip off to pay several $100 for several days of work by a professional developer/designer?

Doing everything yourself is often a mistake where you can lack certain key skills that prevent you succeeding. Also, you don't get the benefit of others feeding back what you are clearly doing wrong.

Sure, most of us prefer to build our own sites and would never pay to get the job done since it is what we enjoy doing, but there are others that are only interested in marketing that are happy to pay to get their sites built for them. Some pay for everything, even blog posts.

$500 for a 5-page website is reasonable even from a freelancer's perspective (I am a freelancer, so I believe that I can safely make this statement). A lot more time and energy goes into building websites than you realize. Coming up with fresh ideas, sorting out projects, and even introducing the first layout can alone take up hours of time.

If it takes a freelancer or a business 36 hours to complete a quality 5-page website for you from start to finish, is that an unreasonable amount? That's approximately $14 an hour you are paying for creative talent and expertise.

I think you are feeding your visitors misinformation here. The more likely a freelancer is to produce a "killer website" for you, the more likely the cost will be high. You pay for quality, and you pay for time. Unless you intend to outsource, it will be difficult to find a low-cost, high quality freelance web designer.

Don't take this thread too seriously folks, it has been posted on at least 1 other forum by this lazy (doomed to failure) marketer (but they can learn and change  Wink ).

What we have done is leverage the original post to create a useful discussion out of it.

Well respected copywriters can get away with $1,000's per page since they help generate income from the sales page. Ron Paul generated a record $6 million from a web page in one day. So how much was the web copy worth for that single page? Before this, the record stood at $1 million for one day's income from a web page owned by John Reese. These web pages were not the only elements in the sales process but they had the job of converting visitors to sales.

So it's all relative. If you want very cheap pages you could automatically generate them for next to nothing, copy some public domain content or outsource the writing to somebody that requires the minimum possible hourly rate. At the other extreme, you could seek out writers that authored million dollar revenue pulling sales pages and pay top rates per page.

Some of us that don't actually want to build other people's sites often get approached to do a job and we quote a large fee since we don't really want the work since we have our own business to work on. But some customers will happily pay the large fees so we take a few days out from our businesses to do this work. Also, we may want to develop a relationship with another business person, so we might do some free or discounted work in exchange for future relationship benefits such as cross promotion of products and services.

I noticed that some bloggers make their money from copywriting. At first sight, it looks like their blog doesn't make any money and you wonder why do they work so hard on it. Then you find out that they are using the blog to demonstrate their wiriting skills and it clicks. They usually reveal in some posts that they get paid to write web copy. Of course they enjoy writing, so blogging is fun for them but I used to be a bit puzzled why some bloggers seem to try too hard e.g. with graphics that they purchase to insert in blog posts.

Having tried the fixed content approach, forums, products and blogging and in the course of this making many $1000's of dollars online, I think I have settled on the ideal solution for the average person. I am now very close to rolling out my solution to your problem. As a hint, the solution is to have a mainly fixed content site that is very focused on driving visitors to complete a desired action on your home page. To get many targeted visitors to your site, you spread a web of pages and links that drive visitors to your home page.

Your main focus is to drive visitors to your home page. Focus on driving as many targeted visitors to your home page that is extremely optimised to convert your visitors to sales. Then look forward to $x payments direct to your PayPal account or what ever for every 10 visitors or so depending on your sales conversions.

Any more thoughts on this subject...

Overall I just use the Wordpress themes with overlays and additional themes such as Genesis which ends up being a superior marketing platform, I think, and is much more affordable versus building a new website from scratch.  Some people use Joomla and Drupal which are great platforms, but Wordpress works better in my opinion from a marketing standpoint because of all he built-in features and plugins that are available.
