Some basic exercises you can do in the comfort of home:

Hahaha... I don't think I could pull off a single one of those exercises. Grin
I couldn't help but laugh when I replaced that bodybuilder with the average webmaster. (Of course, I'm not excluding myself.)

Andy, you are one of the few healthy webmasters that I know.

I think Denis is in good shape. The people that I have seen that are into marketing tend to be in good shape I think.

Actually, I can't do the exercises in the video either. When I was a youth I did weight training and could do the single leg squat and nobody I knew could do it. It was my party trick, make it seem easy and challenge others to do it. But I only did 1 repetition. At the time I used to do squats with up to 100Kg and my body weight was about 70Kg. If you don't have weights at home you could ask a brother or sister to piggy back on you whilst you train.  Grin

I remember wrestling tryouts in high school: one of the exercises was to pair up with someone about your same size, and each would take turns sitting on each other's shoulders while doing a ten count of squats.

Somewhat limited on space, and access to that space, I only have three pieces of exercise equipment:

1) A 40lb dumbell

2) A tension bar (a giant spring with handles, and you bend it)

3) Hand grips

I primarily got the dumbell for strength training to prevent injuries from work. I can end up with a lot of totes that weigh up to 45lbs each, and the 40lb dumbell was the closest match, and the heaviest that was carried. Although lifting the totes does provide its own exercise, it is not a controlled exercise. Most of my exercises are with the dumbell and it seems to help by exercising other muscles that do not get a workout while working.

The tension bar was something I got years ago and is primarily for the chest and arms. The first time I tried it, I was lucky to bend it three times, and with considerable effort.

The hand grips are something I recently added. It just helps to increase one's gripping strength, and being that my work constantly requires using the hands to grab hold of things it has become helpful; constantly grabbing onto items you are stocking can lead to strains and even fractures.

A pair of dumbells comes in handy when you have been staring at the screen for a few hours it gets the blood pumping.

cool idea, it would be really cool to show how exercise could be done by expert and in second scene show webmaster, Rachel if you film something like this you can make some cash on Metacafe as it would be fun! Grin

Jogging is a good form of exercise. I always enjoyed it in the morning, that way I felt refreshed all day long. How is the weather in the Summer?

I have been slacking quite a bit, so I am trying some alternatives to keep myself in shape. Working out in the yard is a good one, because it's productive in two ways: 1) I get some exercise and 2) I take care of the yard-- something that desperately needs work!

The past few weeks, I have been exercising more. Nothing to do with your thread, Andy (sorry); it's more on a personal level.

I bought a second 40lb dumbbell, so I now have a set. I have also added a set of 10lb dumbbells to the mix.

Although they are 80lbs combined, I find working with two dumbbells is easier, and less time consuming, than working with a single dumbbell. I got the 10lb dumbbells for exercises for which the 40lb set was obviously too heavy and dangerous; I was looking for a 15lb set but couldn't find one at a good price. I am considering a 20-25lb set for an in-between range.

Also found a stronger set of handgrips at a cheap price.

Menard - you can purchase dumbells with a set of plates so you can vary the weight. 40LBs is a lot of weight for dumbells. I am using only 16.5LBs

I do shoulder press, bicep curl, pressups, crunches, leg raises in rotation (approx 15 reps of each, repeat 3 times) for a basic exercise. Also I go for runs. If I didn't run, I would do squats as well.

Here's an exercise routine I tried a couple of times using dumbells:

I know that. Tongue

I started with a single 40lb dumbbell. I got the matching 40lb dumbbell at a reduced price and just wanted to complete the set. What I paid for the second 40lb dumbbell and the 10lb set was less than a set of 20lb adjustable dumbbells would cost. I am considering the 20-25lb set as either is less than $25 and much less than the adjustable set.

I do like having the separate dumbbells as it is easy to switch between weights; just grab a different set of dumbbells. Grin

The hex style dumbbells I have are also easy to stack; making them ideal for limited space as they store easily and compactly. Being hex dumbbells, they also don't roll anywhere.

If I go above the 40lb dumbbells, I will most likely go for an adjustable set and just add weights to them. What keeps me from doing that and getting a barbell set is limited space for now.

I thought you have some digital camera don't you? I think most of videos on Youtube and similar sites are filmed with them so why don't give it a try?

in summer it's hot but during early morning hours it's much colder than the rest of day and you can actually get some relief spending them outside.

that's what I was doing before got too much job on myself, in early spring we've had a lot of things to do on the garden and there is much more to do, there is always job available you just need time to get there and perform it Wink

mine dumbbell are very old and now I wonder if they cost so much as in your area, if so I would feel guilty that didn't workout with them on more regular basis Tongue Grin

I'm trying to find time, and the energy, to work out.

This past week has been work heavy and these past two days have been psychotic; I have not even worked out for the past two days.

I'm taking a breather now, before I have to go back to work.

I already feel so drained that I probably won't even be able to lift the 40s.

Can't wait for this week to end.

You don't have to work out with weights much. Once a week is OK since the muscles need to rebuild, especially if you are using 40LB dumbells.

Burning calories is different since it is a gentler form of exercise that is more about endurance.

If you do squats and pressups to the max, you can only do them for a few minutes and take a few days to recover. But you can ride a bike for over an hour and do the same again in a couple of days time.

Pity you have this crummy job to drain your energy so much Menard. Hopefully your convention idea is a big success and provides an escape route.

I actually work for 4 different companies.

One is new and I have not had an opportunity to start with them yet, due to the workload I have at present.

Two of the companies are short-handed and I am filling in putting in a full time schedule for both while also getting a few extra hours from the fourth company.

I also do some occasion contract labor for a local studio and, unexpectedly, they needed help this very week.

I am working about 100 hours, if not more and not including drive time,  this week and Thursday through Saturday is going to be the heaviest.
