In the continual squabble between Windows users and Linux users, especially on this forum, I present an offering of peace between us by whole-heartedly, and without solicitation, providing a list of 5 good uses for a Linux computer, and 5 good uses for a Linux user.

 Grin

5 Good Uses for a Linux Computer

1) Makes a great doorstop.

2) Need a boat anchor?

3) Great for smashing walnuts.

4) Sit it beside a Windows computer so you can admire the Windows computer even more.

5) Can replace a broken table leg in an instant.

5 Good Uses for a Linux User

1) A great dust collector.

2) Someone needs to occupy the basement.

3) They spend so much time on the computer, they must be good with their hand....er...hands.

4) Great, silent, companion for movie watching (just not on a Linux machine).

5) Great for keeping the laundry ironed (they'll never mess up the sheets).

In this, a Windows user reaching out to Linux users (can't you feel the love Cry), I open the lists to further additions by others so that we can all have a better appreciation of Linux and its users.

*Hey guys, this is all in jest...just in case anybody takes it the wrong way. Smiley

A release of Linux Dot Net would help bridge the gap I think. The Linux kernel could be re-vamped to provide the CLR (Common Language Runtime) interface to C#, VB etc.

The licence could be the Generally Misunderstood Licence (GML) maybe?

I'm sure that only a few million people would take offence from Beijing to Moscow. But it is great bait to get traffic to your websites. Clever idea, keep us posted on the stats.  Grin

It seems like You can sleep soundly tonight Menard. But I would advise unplugging the modem  Grin

Maybe you were too general in your reference to the OS, maybe you should specially target a fringe variant that is only used by the oddballs where simply switching from Vista Ultimate CCard Cleaner to say SquirrelPoo9 is not enough ?

Just jesting  Grin

With the number of distros and variants and inbreeds of variants of Linux, it seems that just having one's computer infected with it counts as a variant anymore. Grin

Anyhow, I will name the top 5 new Linux distros:

1) Batter's Box Linux - A baseball themed Linux recognizing that not only can Linux users not get to first base, but they can't even get up to try.

2) Dungeon Dweller's Linux - Hey, if you are going to spend so much time in the basement, look around; you might find a few old school D&Ders still hanging around who might get a kick out of your new desktop.

3) Pole Position Linux - Let's just say that it involves constant use of the hand, but they'll never reach the finish line.

4) CRT Linux - Who needs graphics and buttons and other user friendly features when glowing green text and a keyboard will do just fine.

5) Big Root Linux - Just use your imagination.

Just spreading the love even more Kiss

...and, of course, only in jest. Grin

I like this thread and I like that you found so many uses for a Linux machine that have I have not heard before. I mean you get all this and it is free.

Now of course you could do the same things with a Windows machine, but then you would have to pay for it and you would always have to be concerned that your door stop etc. was being used as a means for others to spy on you. Which leads to having to pay extortion money to keep the spy's and diseases out.

Keep up the good work and do some more great free advertising for the best system. Grin Grin Grin
