It contain example on how to make popup without JavaScript with help of CSS only, maybe it would be useful to someone.

2 images inside a link and making the big one pop into view as the mouse hovers over the link.

It will increase your bandwidth usage since the large images will be loaded even if the visitor doesn't view them. Something to bear in mind if you were thinking to use it with photos.

of course, but from other side it will lower lag before loading bigger images.
Also you can make popup using two images like in case with JS, one for thumbnail and other for bigger image which would appear only when you hover first one.
