Maybe he forgot to revisit... Seems like alot of people do that, it doesn't seem to matter who's forum it is   Undecided
I've saw this message posted by Rachel in other thread. And yes I've totally agree that much people forgot or don't want to check messages they post somwhere... some of them do it just to get some traffic to their sites and some just forgot...
So it makes me wonder maybe we should turn off guest posting? they will be still able to read posts but before someone could post he or she will need to register account... do you think it would be wise to do so or unfair? and we'll scare off potential members if do that. But from other side we'll lower SPAM messages which appear to just post a link to some web site...
please tell us your opinion on this subject.

Can you prohibit guest posts in certain areas of the forum and not others? Maybe we should limit guests to posting in areas that they can't really 'spam' in.

The thing is... If someone's researching something on the internet and your forum yeilds results, they may be inclined to query or comment on that particular topic... But they may not want to register.

And if that's the case, we lose their interest and their feedback. But I don't know if we can't really determine these sort of things...

Do you we have any current examples of this matter? Have their been guests that have actually become members later on?

I haven't been here as long as you have (A surprise, really... Huh ) so I don't know what all has gone on while I haven't been around.

yeah maybe it would be good idea to limit certain boards, I'll check this out if YaBB has a mod which allow to do this.
As for examples on guest who become members lately I saw few... usually guests do some post and later come and register...
I think the best example of Guest who become a member after 3 posts is Matt.

That the kind of example I was hoping for... Matt's a great member. So... this may mean that if he wasn't able to post as a guest, we might have lost a potential member.

So now maybe we should discuss which boards you should limited to members only and why.

yeah we can ask Matt about that, maybe he'll share why he didn't register from beginning. as for boards I think that if someone want to SPAM they do this in each board... at least so was with these posts I've merged together, they was in the each board of forum...

Hmm.. How about making someone register to create a topic, but allowing guests to posts in topics created by others? Can you do something like that?

Sheesh, that person must be dying for customers. They need to get themselves on down to SEO-World and ask Greg to help them make their site SE savvy. Wink That's right, send the spam on down to Greg...

Have good news, one of the mod writers agree to include some new features to it's Mod which would probably let us to show signature after member reach certain number of posts, and also allow posting to guest only in certain boards and probably let them only reply not create new threds. Here is more info avaialbale. As soon as first version of new mod will appear I'll try to install it.
