Ok... I noticed the thing about the .htaccess file, and it reminded me of something I wanted to post here.

After a whole bunch of reading, then writing my .htaccess file, setting up a password protected folder, and creating my own 404 page, then uploading everything .......... it didn't work.

I did a little research, and found that my site is not running that (at least not directly).  Don't get me wrong, it's not an IIS server or anything, but what I did find was that it's on this kind of setup.

OS: IRIX
HTTP Server Software: Zeus

Now ... where do I go from here?
anyone familiar with this kind of operation?

I'm not familliar with Zeus... I think it's pretty rare server software if compare it to Apache... of course I could be wrong....
as for your question I've found this guide which seems to give some info on how .htaccess work on Zeus, check it out and let us know if it was any help to you.
