Too bad that I don't smoke, as I wouldn't mind to stop smoking in order to buy dSLR even not so expensive as in movie Wink

if you still not see enough benefits in stop smoking check this out:

Thanks for that, Denis!
I actually just quit smoking three days ago. Having you post this video is a funny coincidence. Wink
The first two days were very hard... hopefully now it will just be a matter of beating the habit.

of course you may think that it was coincidence, but in reality it was my cruel plan Grin

So what are you going to buy on those money which you now save? Roll Eyes
BTW maybe you'll consider collecting money which otherwise you spend on cigarettes in some sort of money-box (transparent maybe so you can see result) as possibly it gives some additional motivation and support or I'm wrong?

The problem with quitting an addiction is what to replace it with. You need another outlet for frustrations. For example, one of my friends quit alcohol and became crazy about exercise like an obsession.

Good point, Andy, I know my father quit smoking by going for a walk somewhere. So guess you need to spend this time somehow and this shouldn't be stressful. Maybe you take your camera and try to make photos long requested by people e.g. place where you live? Exercise like Andy suggested seems to be also nice replacement for smoking, although not always possible. Or you can always spend time talking about something on WKey Grin

Andy is right. I have not quite decided what would be a good replacement, but I have found myself either reading and/or drawing during times I would normally take breaks. I have also started walking and stretching in the morning in order to reduce stress throughout the rest of my day.

I found the first 2 days of quitting I was very tired. I was so tired I was falling asleep in my chair. I was told that the first two weeks would be this way, but that after the "block" I would have an increase in energy. This is the point of my quitting, after all...

It's been 5 days now. It's not so bad, really...

I think that is a good idea. I honestly haven't thought about it. The funny thing is, besides cigarettes, I don't spend money on anything but gas and groceries. I will have to find something... Wink

Thanks, Denis! You're one of the few that have supported my decision. I will remember this.

The strangest thing... I have found that about 75% of the people I have told either 1) disapprove of my quitting, 2) don't understand why I would want to quit, 3) have no faith in my ability to quit, or 4) don't care either way. I would have thought the majority of them would be cheering me on. They didn't seem to withhold condescension while I was smoking, but the moment I decided to quit they gave me no support.

Oh well. I think that lack of faith and interest has made me even more determined.

not sure but maybe they know you better than I and simply decide to motivate you this way, could it be this?

talking seriously I think you can invest in some gadgets which let you design things in a more pleasure way or buy some expensive software package which you couldn't afford previously?

Rachel,

I support your decision to quit smoking too.

I would be happy to have you guest post about your progress on my weight loss tips blog since quitting smoking is often accompanied by becoming fat. But I think you want to gain muscle mass rather than fat.

It would be a nice series for readers to follow and you would of course get attribution in a big way. Also, I think it would be a great way to support you as you battle the urge to light up again.

Let me know if you accept this offer. It would probably be a hot topic for January 2008.

I think that partially people get fat after quit smoking not only because of metabolism changes but because some people replace smoking with other addiction to sweats for example which is short way to getting fat...

Yeah, sure. They need something else to satisfy their addictive urges and one route is the candy bar and nibbles.

I think that it one of the big issues... I also believe that many of them are afraid I will become angry or upset without my cigarettes. I remember trying to quit last year... it was not a pretty sight.

My family seemed to be more supportive than others... there were only a few family members discouraging me this time around.

I have been wanting a new keyboard and an MP3 player. That and a few more art supplies. So maybe I will...

I have had overwhelming urges to eat since I quit smoking. I have, of course, yielded to every single one of them... I ate so much yesterday my stomach was hurting. I seem to have difficulty gaining weight, so I have not been very worried about it. Besides, I have started a new work out regime to help me cope with quitting.

I think it would be very supportive. Thanks, Andy. Maybe I should start writing about it like a diary and post weekly on my progress. I have plenty to write about for just the first week, even.

good start, I think, you can also make some video about this which may encourage other folks to quit smoking?
