Sambar is essentially a pea and vegetable stew or chowder based on a broth made with tamarind and toovar dal, and is very popular in the cooking of southern regions of India. Sambar is an South Indian curry without which most South Indian meals seem incomplete. Here is this mouth watering Indian Food Recipes

Ingredients :
1/2 cup toor daal
1/2 cup grated fresh/frozen coconut
1 tspn chana daal
1 tspn coriander seeds
1 tspn mustard seeds
1/2 tspn cumin seeds
1/4 tspn methi seeds
A pinch asafoetida
7-8 curry leaves
1/2 inch piece cinnamon(optional)
5-6 cloves(optional)
5-6 red chilies
Vegetables - green beans, carrot, cauliflower, tomato, potato, drumsticks
Oil
2-3 strands coriander leaves
A pinch turmeric
Salt
Method:
Cook daal with little turmeric and 2 drops of oil (turmeric and oil help daal to cook early). Cook vegetables separately. Heat 1 tspn oil and fry ingredients from chana daal to red chillies. Add coconut and fry for 2-3 minutes. Grind to a thin paste. Heat cooked daal, add vegetables, ground masala and salt. Heat for 5-10 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Heat 1 tspn oil. Add mustard seeds, when they start popping, add curry leaves. Add this seasoning to the cooked sambar..
Can be severed with rice, dosa (Indian Pancake), Idli (rice dumpling) etc.
Serves: 5
Preparation time: 30min

Very interesting recipe. Looks good. I have never tried Indian food myself.

I've tried Indian chicken when work in U.A.E. and although I like hot products with a lot of spices this was something I can't imagine that person could it. I've never in my life tried something as hot as this chicken Grin

Wonder if all food in India is hot like this or they have some sweets too? Roll Eyes

Most of the Indian food i've tried is very hot. Even the so called mild stuff is hot.

I don't eat much Indian food, but if i have to order something, i usually go for a chicken tikka masala.

I like the very hottest Indian Food such as Chicken Vindaloo but that is a little dry. Hot, runny curry like my wife makes is my favorite.

I heard that true Indian Curry is very different to that developed for the British market though.

Curry in British restaurants is best enjoyed after a few beers in the local Public House (Pub). It seems like the yogurt and curry paste blends well with the after-taste of Real Ale. Without the beer e.g. for lunch, it is not quite the same in my experience.
