If I buy a square yard of desert (Arizona?) or swamp land (Florida?) in North America, can I get a US postal address?

But maybe there is even cheaper land to be had?

Of course, for the actual mail deliveries I would go for a post office box, but I think I need proof of land ownership first. I figure that if I can stand on my own land in 1 square yard of space, it should qualify. If a property is required, maybe I could place a small shed/shack on the land or acquire land with a tiny shack already in place? Possibly an old disused trappers shack in the mountains of Colorado?

I'll have to check into that.

I know for a resident that they don't have to be a landowner to get a P.O. Box; just have a physical address.

There are also companies like Mailboxes Etc. which rent private mailboxes to individuals. The advantages to their service are privacy and an address that looks more like a street address (123 Anystreet Dr, #400) than a P.O. address.

nice idea! Words desert or swamp would look really cool in address Grin
But if such practice is possible than probably a lot of people would like to buy some cheap land somewhere to get US postal address as it gives to business more serious look.

I guess one would have to maintain the property so I may need to hire someone to paddle out to my bit of swamp land and trim the grass every few months with some sheers. Just to show I was contributing to the good of the country. I think the swamp idea is best since it has easy access from Miami, Florida. At the airport I would tell immigration that I was visiting my residence to have a record of actually having this business address and using it.

p.s. what time of day do crocodiles get hungry?

First of all, how would the postman get to to post your letters and how would you get to pick them up ?

Well, I thought that anything was possible in America.

For the desert delivery, maybe use a light aircraft, rider on a horse, trained dog etc. Endless possibilities  Grin

The swamp delivery is easy by boat, I saw these boats on James Bond movies. You just have to be careful that the big fan doesn't blow the letter out into the swamp to feed the crocs.

The letters only need to be deliverable for proof of a postal address. If I send a letter by recorded delivery, the postie will tick a box on a form that the letter was delivered. If necessary I could pay some dude to chew jerky whilst waiting to sign a receipt from the postie. Then I can set up a PO box/business mail drop in the nearest town. So I just need one of those post boxes that sit on top of a pole at the end of the drive. Easy to install on my land.

The links are interesting but you have to have a residence or have a business on American soil to apply. This form has to be filled in: http://www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps1583.pdf Application for Delivery of Mail Through Agent(12/2004)

If you do a search under rv mail forwarding then you will find there are many ways to have mail sent to an address in the US and then have the mail forwarded to you anywhere. Without the need to have property or a physical address. If you own some property in the US and don't want to take care of it then you can have it designated as a wild life preserve. This will also make the property taxes lower if not do away with them altogether.

What I was interested in was a way to register a domain name owner address in the US. It would make it easier to get accepted as a business that interacts with mostly US customers.

For example, I was accepted as a PayPerPost writer with the .com company by the same name but many offers insist you are based in North America which is pretty dumb since my blogs are read by many North Americans and the hosting is mostly in Texas. But maybe if I explain that, it would be OK. But my blog also needs Google Page Rank which my 6 month old blog still hasn't got since the companies offering the jobs want a PR of at least 3. My blog has PR 0 (it gets daily traffic) but the host domain has PR 6 so I am just waiting for Google to do a PR update before I can progress.

Here is a link to a service that offers a USA address (not a PO Box) to anyone opening an account with them....
http://www.usa2me.com/site/default.aspx
I don't know how this would work with taxes and other legal matters but I do know there is a recreational club that you can sign up for that will give you a street address that will work for getting a drivers license and vehicle registration and insurance. I'm just not sure what the name is but it is located in Texas.
