Is it good practice to 301 redirect to http://yoursite.com from http://www.yoursite.com ?

It moves the keyword of the domain name closer to the left and gets rid of the superflous www.

I always do http://www.yoursite.com/ from http://yoursite.com/

I guess it because people are more habitual linking sites with www.

People are more inclined towards including www. site .com rather than http://site . com

I guess www was the beginning of internet era, and I dont think one should redirect users from www version towards non-www version

It doesn't make any difference for SEO, you just need to decide one way or the other to minimize duplicate content on your own domain. You can easily get #1 ranking without the www. part with a low competition phrase.
