Hello Andy  Cool

As far as your website is concerned, you are targeting viral marketing keyword. However this keyword is highly competitive and it has low chances to scoring high rankings within 6-12 months.

However you can add more specific keywords to this website. Take for example my website is about providing "seo services". However, I will target keyword "seo services india", because rankings for this keyword are easy to obtain. Moreover this keyword is more specific to services which we provide.

Along with this you need to add following tags

<keywords> - important
<description> - next most important.

I am sure it will help you score higher rankings on search engines  Smiley

Sorry Dave, but you don't provide good SEO advice.

The "keywords" meta tag is a waste of time. Why would any search engine trust that tag?

The site I built for a client ranked #1 on Google soon after launch and is still #1 for it's main keyword. It was last year I built this site.

Also, I don't get your site appearing in the top 10 when I search on your keywords.

I wouldn't trust anyone that currently teaches you to do 1:1 link exchanges.

You can learn SEO in 20 minutes, the theory is very simple and covered in detail in a million+ places on the web. Search for "seo basics" for example. Practically it takes time to build unique content, obtain inbound links and build the authority of your site.

Sorry Daveweb, I have to agree with Andy. Using the Keyword meta tag is quite old. It could IMO even provide search engines a way to penalize you as it gathers your keywords in one place and thus allows search engines to weigh those words against the content to evaluate the word ratio as a means of checking for word stuffing. The Description meta tag is IMO the most important meta tag used by search engines for placement.

I would expect that Google would check the keywords meta tag as a way to detect spam. But if you have just a couple of very relevant keywords then it may help. But I am just speculating here.

In my most recent script for an article directory, I do give users the option to include a keywords meta tag if they want. Also, with sites that have little text content but a lot of inbound links, the keyword meta tag could be useful to some search engines to determine the nature of a site. For example, an artistic site that is comprised mostly of images or flash content.
