Today I created a new template for my static site directory to make it cleaner and simpler with what I think is optimal use of Adsense.

I read on the adsense blog that the highest converting Adsense unit is the 336x280 (or 300x250) Ad unit. So I put this in the hotspot on the page. Also, I added a link unit in the footer since I find that these provide a good match to the topic of the page and provide more options to the visitor. If you have too many direct Ads on a page they can lose relevance and probably click value too.

Here is a typical page: http://urgentclick.com/travel.php Possibly I have too many links but they are providing the content. I think the Adsense is complementing this inventory of site links well.

I am seeing phenomenal conversion on this redesigned template but it is early days. The stats are shouting out to me that this was a good move. It will be a few weeks before I get concrete results though.

This is good to know. My website has not been designed to promote this particular ad size, but I will keep it in mind for future websites.

Another interesting development is Google Video Ads. Only available to webmasters based in North America at the moment though.

The videos should be very attention grabbing compared to static text Ads.

So the Google Video ads will look better than the website and someone will decide to make a site of cool looking Google Video ads for the content and find they are the first shown on Google search and have a PR of 11+.

What I will probably do is place the Google video Ad at the end of my web page after my content since this is where the vistors that failed to click on the buy buttons or sponsored links will end up and will be wondering what random thing to do on the web next. This is the last chance to hold them up by the heels and shake the change from their pockets. So what better idea than to give them a video to watch  Grin Much more interesting than reading the privacy policy.

Some visitors will bleed your bandwidth dry plundering all your free information and help without so much as a comment, click on an Ad or mention on a forum, so we have to get creative in ways to at least extract a few cents from this people without them realizing.

Lets talk about money...

Last month I made $0.33 per day from this directory. Since making the changes I made an average of $0.66 per day over the last 7 days. Kind of weird that it is exactly double but this small change will spread over 365 days of the year and projects out to: $240 per year. Not much money but it easily covers my hosting costs and I only did the work once but will continue making the income even while I sleep.

The next stage could be to improve the quality of links in each category but this may decrease my income since there is a choice for the visitor between clicking the sponsored Ads or the listed Ads. Also, I could include pay per sale Ads from affiliate programs which may generate higher revenue.

Here's how I monetize the home page of my web site: http://www.urgentclick.com/

I think you did a good job theming the Ads with your site.

The new Ad units with the curved corners can work well where you are not adding them to a white background.

I was implementing Adsense on another of my sites today. Originally, I wasn't going to since my main aim is to promote a couple of affiliate products but I found a way to add a section on the site showing videos on YouTube. This is using an amazing script that pulls the latest or most relevant videos and formats the links and images into a web site or a sub directory of your site.
The script is so simple to deploy, so after I saw it in action on somebody else's site and realized how long it would take me to code something similar, it was a no-brainer decision to buy.

I have been getting more and more interested in using video on my sites and wanted to make use of video syndication. This script takes care of everything such as extracting the author details, snapshots of the video, building a page of selected videos, automatically generating the page to play a selected video, inserting your Ads, providing a search facility for users to show more videos and filtering out bad content.

The default install is as simple as editing two lines in a config file and uploading the scripts. I decided to customize the template to make it look like my existing site, this was quite easy since there are video tutorials showing you what to do. Just a couple of hours later, I now have a video section added to my site complete with monetization. You can check it out here: http://www.weight-loss-tips.ws/exercise-videos/ Notice how well it's optimized for search engines and monetization. Also, click on one of the videos to see how the next page looks, then try the search feature.

I can't wait to Ad video sections to my other sites now. There is no limit to how many video sites you can build with this script.

More about this script here: http://www.adscube.com/goto/nichevideosite

Good PR for the page... But I think the ad size is big and I would prefer a multiple ads instead of a single big one

Maybe you are right but the conversion ratios are very good so I don't fancy making any changes. p.s. there is a link unit in the footer that you may have missed.

I think you did a good job with the Adsense integration. Let's hope the Ads are relevant and produce decent revenue.
