I see people all the time fussing about Linux not working with certain hardware. Often they say Windows works with my hardware. Don't people understand that when a computer comes with the OS built in that the hardware used is what the software requires to work? When people try and use Linux they are trying to make the software meet the standards of the hardware. This is a much more difficult task to perform. There is still a lot of hardware that will not work Windows and there is even more that will not work with Vista.

Vista was a real present to OpenSource community from M$ IMHO, they couldn't do better to start people think about migration to Linux, than issuing new OS which have problems with hardware, and not compatible with old versions of some software. Anyway at least it seems that overall stability of the system was finally increased which is good thing of course.

BTW if you're using Linux you generally shouldn't have problem with hardware if before buying check for feedback about particular device on forums and maillists. If hardware is good and popular there is good chance that drivers are already available for Linux. There is also good tendency amongst some companies which start to make drivers themselves for Linux OS.

About the only problem I can see is if you have hardware that is too new or was made just for Windows. Of course there are changes in the wind that will be helping Linux have the newest drivers available.
