I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it

The bleeping thing is so slow.

I added new domains to my hosting, not paying attention (Yeah, I learned) and had the root folders, by default, end up with an additional dotcom added to them...so it looks like domain.com.com (although it would go to the domain anyway, being that these are addon domains they would look like subdomain.com.domain.com...hope nobody is confused).

Two of my hosting companies have switched to cpanel 11, and I expect the other to as well.

I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.

I'm running Directadmin it's, stable, easy to use and much faster than cpanel.

Out of curiosity, why do you use multiple hosts?

Out of curiosity, why do you use multiple hosts?

I don't like to keep all of my eggs in one basket, so to speak.

The primary reason is if I used the same host and they went down, all of my sites would be down.

Other reasons have come to fore since I started using premium hosting:

1) A host I have is an excellent host with good security, but their security measures cause errors with some scripts, and trying to circumvent it can be a headache, if possible. For those scripts I wanted to run without getting the errors, I moved them to another host.

2) I'm not particularly fond of addon domains. I am looking at some multi-domain hosting options, but for now I want to have my primary sites each hosted as the primary domain.

3) I don't like to pay a year in advance for something that is unknown; like how good of a host they are and if they offer what I want. I made that mistake once* and now pay by the month; which does limit the available hosting options.

4) I have a traffic exchange site, adult sites, mp3 downloads, and projects for some other potentially risky bandwidth sites. I'd rather set up a separate account for those rather than host them with my other sites should the powers that be decide they want to pull the plug on my account.

5) Although this will change, and I have a lot to learn in this area, multiple hosts provide me with some experience in what will work with certain server configurations. Though, for now, I just know which account I need to, most likely, install a script to get it to work with the least headaches.

*I made the mistake of accepting a free domain from a hosting company. Although it was registered to me, I did not think in advance about the account being hosted with that as the primary domain. I should have just registered the domain on my own after the fact and had the cargoship as the primary domain under the hosting. Probably I could have had a new account set up, but i let it sit for a while before I even began to do anything. The hosting service would not give me a discount for having a second account, so I just went elsewhere.

I do need to shuffle some of my hosting around to get it where I want it. One account was created in a rush due to a hacking incident which left me without hosting. I still have my first account which hosts the TrafficClose site, and the root directory on that is screwed up and it's a long story I'm not going into. The cargoship site is hosted on its own.

Eventually, I want to bring most of my sites under the cargoship. It is my strongest domain; though only a PR3, its backlinks are increasing through my promotion efforts and it has garnered 75 .gov and .edu backlinks to date. The remainder will be the trafficclose site which I want to keep separate; and some portals, a traffic exchange, and other sites I want to host together but separate from the cargoship and trafficclose (trafficclose can pull enough bandwidth on its own, it doesn't need any help).

Those are my excuses and I'm sticking to them. Tongue

That's a good point. If there was some nuclear disaster near your server then you are literally wiped out in a flash. But if you spread your hosting around the globe then it is harder to swat you out.

A move I am making now is to eliminate the need to have a PC, the next move is to spread my data all over the planet so it will be safer and less likely to be wiped due to some unexpected event.
