Below is a great article discussing "Is Linux Really Ready for Simple Users?" written in an entertaining manner. It is quite long but a good read.

The article is way too long for my liking. Also, the title suggests that Linux is an operating system for people of above average intelligence and it's questionable whether or not it is suited to the majority of people with average or lower IQ and only have basic needs such as sending email and browsing the web.

My thinking is that simple users will never move to Linux since they either use a mobile phone for all their communication needs or they bought a computer with Windows pre-installed. I can't imagine simple users ending up with Linux unless they were forced to do so by their partner for example.

Maybe Linux is a better OS for these "Simple Users" but I think most people are just programmed to use Windows or a phone.

Sorry it sounds that way to you. However! that is not what it is saying at all.

It doesn't ask are Simple Users ready for Linux.

What it is asking is whether Linux has matured enough to be ready for simple users or is it still only for those wanting to manipulate the details of a system, rather than just use it in the standard simple manner that the average user uses a system. There is nothing in the article that suggest it is for higher IQ people. Your reply sounds like you think people that only use their computer for email and browsing the web are people with lower IQ's.

The article is about the usefulness of Linux for people that do not want to mess with their computer but instead just want to use the GUI (Graphical User Interface) to accomplish the task they desire, as these are the simple users, even if they are the ones with the highest or lowest IQ.

More and more computers are coming with Linux installed and some very large countries are refusing to use Windows. One of the main reasons for this is the cost of using Windows compared to using Linux and it's Open Source software.

The quality of Linux in the area of easy interface is advancing almost every day without effecting it's security.

As for mobile phones Linux is also working on that area and making some good inroads there. The idea behind Linux is choice and there are very few Linux users that would force their partner or anyone else to use Linux.

That may be true but it may not stay that way.
