I recently started submitting my website through listings on Directory Critic and have found (1) website on their front page listing that contains viruses. I reported this website between 3-5 days ago and it has not yet been removed. I would have thought that the administrators of Directory Critic would take immediate action, but they have not.

The site in question is called "Niche-Listings" and comes up in 12th place on Directory Critic.

Regardless of whether or not any of these other directories contain viruses, I thought I should advise that anyone using Directory Critic should be careful.

Thanks for sharing this, Rachel! I think that it could be fault not of Directory Clinic, as they have very big amount of directories and probably same amount of SPAM so it could take time to find your mail...
Anyway I may recommend this list: http://www.strongestlinks.com/directories.php it's not biggest one but last time I've used(last year) it contain quality resources and information provided about directories was acceptably accurate.

This is true... although viruses do pose a serious threat. I am not sure how long I should wait before reporting again-- what would you consider a reasonable amount of time for the administrators?

hard to say, it depends how much staff is working on the project... Anyway such kind of report wouldn't cause harm if would be repeated, at least I would appreciate such information.

BTW Rachel, I've just have a time and checked Niche-Listing and I even submitted one site for the test but didn't find anything suspicious, can you describe where you've found virus?

The virus did not come directly from Niche-Listings but from one of their advertisers/partners. The script, however, is located on Niche-Listings website, and initiates immediately upon my visit. I reported Niche-Listings to Directory List because it is their responsibility to keep their website clean.

I also sent Niche-Listings the following message:

I continue to receive virus warnings when visiting your website. An advertisement from one of your affiliates contains a malware script. I am using Avast! Home Edition for my internet scanner.

Here are the details:
File Name: http://www.freewebs.com/bongmaonlinehp/c99.php
Malware Name: VBS: Malware [Script]
Malware Type: Virus/Worm
VPS Version: 000765-1, 08/13/2007

Last but not least, I reported the problem to freewebs. I am certain that freewebs will look into it, considering that the affiliate is using their services to initiate the script.

After reporting the matter to freewebs.com (because that was where the virus was being hosted), the virus has since been removed. Niche-Listings is clean now, thankfully. Free Directory List never did make any moves towards replying to my inquiry or removing the listing, but at least it has been resolved.

It may not have been Niche-Listings fault in the first place. Perhaps one of their affiliates was hosting a script that perpetuated the virus on all of their partner's websites.
