I suddenly found that all the email that is sent from my shared hosting account is blocked by Yahoo. This email is from forwarders or using the send mail feature with scripts such as forum scripts.

I found this out by setting up a web mail account on my hosting and sending myself an email. I got a response from the Yahoo mail server that my IP was not allowed.

The reason for this may be that I use the send mail option in things like a forum script. This is apparently vulnerable to hacking and used for spam.

Or maybe too many people flagged email from my site as spam even if I don't send any spam? This could happen if somebody filled in other people's email details in a form to join say a forum.

On Yahoo's site, I can't find a way to ask why they are blocking my IP.

To work around the problem I am now directing all forwarded email to a web mail account on my own hosting. This only solves the problem of receiving email.

Does anyone know how to resolve a ban with Yahoo?

Of course I know nothing about all that, but gotta tell you, with the numerous changes I've experienced I thought I'd use Yahoo for my new email service.    FORGET IT!    I am totally unhappy with it and don't understand why it has become so bad.    Tried the new Beta, went back to the old service, and still am having problems.    They have all sorts of ways of "securing" transmission to the point it's more trouble than it's worth.

My mental image of them is the big bully, seizing power and bossing every one around.   Sorry I've no technical expertise to offer!    Smiley

Andy, you've mentioned that it blocked your mails by IP, for me it sounds that problem isn't in your site but from someone on your host who spammed them... (of course if your site is on the same IP with others, or if it's on own IP it could have bad history in the past)
I never dealt with removal of e-mails from spamlist as never got such a problem, but if I had such, I would ask my hosting administration to take of it first, at least they have more complete picture about what's happening on the site and could also operate with logs data to identify person who's causing problem.
Maybe it's worth to write your hosting support as well and see if they could resolve this?

PS if you're on dedicated IP and hosting gave it to you with bad history it's logical to request them to exchange it for one without such a problem.

I seem to have fixed the problem.

This measure seems to have cleared up the problem since I just received an email sent from my hosting direct to my Yahoo mail box. I guess that I had too many emails being sent too frequently from my shared hosting IP to my Yahoo email box.

Another thing you have to watch is the quota set on your hosting. If you exceed this, your emails get bounced by your host. For example, with HostGator.com their limit is 200 emails per hour and a maximum list size of 4800 emails.

Currently I use Aweber for mailing lists but since it costs $20 a month, I decided to look for a script to do the same thing on my own hosting. PHPList is very popular but I never liked it. I couldn't get it to work with CRON Jobs which is for scheduling the email delivery. So this time I found Infinite Responder which seems ideal. I will let you know how I get on with it.

Well, I installed Infinite Responder on my site and tried it out. It is nice software and works. But, I can't use it because it doesn't have suitable throttling built in. As far as I can tell, it sends bursts of email.

My host only allows 1 email per 6 seconds maximum.

PHP list is recommended by them but this is not an Autoresponder i.e. it does not send timed sequences of email after someone subscribed.
