Your example is one of the deepest pages in the directory and even though it looks like spam it isn't since the post is regarding Vietnam travel and is posted in the Holidays section. There are a lot of links in this post but they do seem relevant. I find that lots of links in a directory seems to work better than a small number of links.

Also, when I search for Halong Bay luxury Junk I find this listed on big G at position 21 so it is indexed in search engines.

I understand your reaction since it is based on a forum script and I don't police it like a forum. Before I used to approve every entry but it becomes a heavy workload. I am sure there are genuine spam posts in the directory too which I need to weed out.

Most posts have many page views so this directory is a traffic generator.

Incidentally, this directory is very profitable from Adsense earnings.

I used to approve every entry. it was big mistake Also pagerank was 5, but Now pr 4. And there is alot of spammy sites in my directory. i want to delete some of them but i can't.. There is a problem in my script.. Now i will change my directory and script. i dont care  pagerank... i will start from zero pagerank.. i have new directory and pagerank 0 . i will not accept all sites Just Quality Links will approve.. in future i will not submit any links in old directory..

i have new directory www.directory.baktabul.com with new script.. i like this script..
i installed new script 2 days before but 251 sites are waiting for approve, and i approved 200 sites, i will check all sites before i submit..

Hi Misafir, glad you've changed your point of view and going to maintain high quality of your new directory. And chasing for PR these days seems to have even less sense than it was before so it's good to hear that you don't care about it anymore

Sorry I don't agree. PR is the way that directory listings are valued. Some sites charge upwards of $100 per listing because they have high PR pages so you cannot ignore this factor. Yahoo! directory now charges $299 just for consideration of your site listing so I have to say that is dumb advice to ignore PR of a directory.

Most directories are only seen by search engine spiders. Also you can still maintain a quality directory and keep in mind that PR is important.

Andy, but Google got itself into trap when PR isn't really put high impact on how frequently site is found through search engine... it's we - small webmasters who put value into PR and make it one of the key factors on the web... Google already to start apply penalties to some sites which either buy or sell PR, so it building your site in term of achieving good PR is wrong and what's what I was trying to say in previous post.

Yahoo! directory now charges $299 just for consideration of your site listing so I have to say that is dumb advice to ignore PR of a directory.

I'm not advice to ignore it completely if it's used wisely just for reference it could be helpful but current PR obsession is unhealthy IMHO...

It's the easiest way to attract attention in a title advertising a directory. Showing content can't easily be done since the visitor has to go to your site to see it. I think webmasters that work to get high PR are the kinds of people that work hard at all aspects of their site including content. They don't just focus on PR. To get the PR they developed unique content, developed relationships with other webmasters to create inbound links, provided tools and resources to the web to get linked to from discussion boards etc.

I agree that PR is unhealthy in that it should never have been invented but we are stuck with it at the moment and if you are in the directory business or want to sell a website then you need to get your PR as high as possible.

If you are submitting to a directory to help improve your site's link popularity and they are adding the nofollow attribute to outgoing links, it is not going to help you. Unless you are expecting to get some traffic from the directory, avoid it.
