Has anyone else noticed how slow the forum has been since June 23, 2007?

Thanks for report! Andy have already reported some slowdowns earlier but I didn't head a chance to check it out.
I'm not 100% sure as can't remember when make some changes to the code, but I've revert it back now, maybe it will fix the problem. I would appreciate if you let me know if now speed is improved or not, so I'd know if problem was caused by mod I've wrote or something else.

and I've figured out what's was wrong. Lately some sites on the server become popular and traffic received by them caused slowdowns you've mentioned. Server should be upgraded soon, but I think about asking to move site to other server when I back from short trip(not sure about moving it right now since moving could bring up some errors which may not be quickly fixed).
Let me know how annoying this slowdowns are, as maybe I'll try to sort this out before trip if they cause much problem?(I'm asking as with my current connection it's hard to spot anything as everything is running slow Tongue ).

It''s real slow.

It is actually taking about a 10 second, or longer, lag before anything even begins to load, and that is with a cable connection.

I usually get a lag (delay) when opening this site. Usually only a few seconds, but this time it is really long and slow.

Want to use my hosting? I have it paid up till like March or April of next year. You can use the account if you want, no charge; not much else there right now. 250GB space and 2500GB bandwidth, so it should suffice, I guess.

Here is a site hosted on my account if you want to test the connection speed: http://olddarkhouse.net/

That's just the start of a site, so nothing else is on that site.

Well it is July 05, 2007 at 04:48 Kiev time and the forum is still slow. What I do is open 2 forums at once and click on something here and then go to the other forum and come back when Webmaster Key Forums is ready.

That's a risk you take with shared hosting that one of the other sites or even your own site will eat up the bandwidth. It looks like that is what is happening here. Best to check server logs to look out for some abuse of bandwidth from one ip address maybe? Then you can block them and save bandwidth. It could be a site hot-linking to images or a referral log spamming site or just bloated server logs which can be a hidden drain on your hosting.

Another way around the slow forum is to open the threads you want in new tabs and then close them once they have been read. This reduces the wait quite a bit.

I have a fear of "band aid solutions". Henry, the boss at the firm I worked for in the power supply industry used to go ballistic if people suggested anything that was a work around type of thing rather than tackling the problem at it's source. The problem is that the site needs to be moved to a different server/IP address.

I agree Andy but in the mean time while it gets fixed I use the afore mentioned method to help make the situation more tolerable and mention them so others can try the same thing.

thanks for your reports folks! And thank you for hosting offer, Bob, it's appreciated! Sorry for delay at fixing this but as you know I was away and wasn't able to influence on forum at that moment.
I've arranged moving of site before my trip to Yalta, but because of possibly complications and lack of time I've decide to delay it until my return.
Right now I've talked with admin and in a few mintures moving would be started so site may not be available for some period of time.
I'll send report once it would be up and running again. thanks for patience and understanding!
looking forward to see you all soon! Wink

Yes, you already mentioned your "band aid solution".  Grin No need to repeat it. Now the forum seems properly fixed  Smiley

you probably would be laughing but method described by Don is actually used by me over ages, it's the only way I could work with my internet connection and it seems to be pretty effective for me.
