You can use this free online tool to scramble your email:

http://picotool.com/hide-email.php

It produces some HTML code that is recognized by email programs but is ignored by email harvesting robots since (currently) hardly anyone uses this masking technique.

In summary, you enter your email and anchor text. Then click the scramble button to get cut and paste code that you can use in websites and anywhere else online to allow people to easily contact you.

nice tool, Andy! I've considered using it in the past but decide that encoded @ symbol "%40" in combination with mailto could be used for recognition by harvesters and decide to use contact from instead, although it's just my theory and I never checked it.
Anyway using scrambled e-mail is better idea than not coding it at all as at least not every harvester would recognize such e-mail. Also sometimes you simply have no choice but to give your e-mail so I would either use such tool or display e-mail on image.

I personally don't care for using online services when it is not necessary due to not knowing what may be happening behind the scenes that I don't know about. Also next time I need the tool it may not be available. For these reasons I recommend using "Obfuscated Email Link Creator" which can be downloaded for free from my Best Web Stop Programs page 3 at....

Links and accurate information provide the best answer, while garbage in provides garbage out.

I personally have more fear of downloading small free utilities to my hard drive in case they contain malware. Plus you have yet another piece of software cluttering up your system.

If you are going to publish an email on line then what is the fear of using a tool that is also on line to obfuscate it? The worst that can happen is that you get sent spam, but that would ruin the reputation of the site hosting the tool. If you are sensible, you use a non-primary email for online contact purposes.

On line forms are best for the webmaster but it shifts the balance of trust i.e. the visitor is giving away their details with little knowledge of where they are being sent.

I also used images for email. I will add that as a tool too.

guess it's matter of taste. As having tools offline sometimes the only way to use them(especially if you're on dialup...).
Personally I prefer online tools which could be saved to hard drive and used from there in the future...(by this I mean that tools are written using DHTML and JavaScript and doesn't require access to server to produce result)

I am looking forward to adding many more tools but there will be a delay while I implement some design for the site to facilitate this stuff.

A further delay is caused by my idea to create video tutorials about how I do it all. I am using WINK to record and edit my actions. It is a great free program that is like Camtasia but it takes some getting used to. I will probably post my first video tutorial on YouTube very soon so stay tuned!  Grin

Doing the video tutorial is a great idea.

I know many people that will be interested in something like this.    A am very much a newbie to the web design world, and even though I'm pretty intelligent, much of this site is still Chinese.

Having video to go along with it, step by step, not only makes it easier, but I can learn in a quick, logical fashion.

Obviously, it's better to learn from the ground up, but priorities differ.
