As an experiment I made a branch of my site about webmaster topics and targeted the phrase Webmaster Discussion Forum To my amazement the url now ranks #9 for me and #6 for others in Google, so competing with some very well established sites. actually it's not amazing because I simply stick on-topic and regularly post.

So how about we conduct some experiment here? Can we as a team shift the position of my url by a few places up? Then the same theory could be applied to anyones's site. I would love to post about any significant shifts in my position based on what sites were linking to mine.

This is the kind of way you might set up your link:

<a href="http://www.urgentclick.com/forum/" title="Webmaster Discussion Forum">Webmaster Discussion Forum</a> - new Webmaster Discussion Forum site blah blah...

Just experiment and I can report results later (weeks, months?) with links to the sites that seemed to help most.

But only link if it makes sense for you to link to my site (to give more visitors value) and post your real thoughts good or bad.

Hi Andy,

Is there any rise in the no. of comments after you got into top 10?Could you also reveal your increase in traffic from organic SE listing as your site got in top 10 (no. 8 for me)?

Secondly, Do you think there is competition for the keywords you are targeting?

Hi Manu,
the comments I had so far are not from natural search visitors. Probably since the overall traffic is low at the moment. None of my blogs get many comments apart from spam comments.

I started tracking visitors on 18th April. The first month averaged 11 unique visitors per day. This week there has been an average of 43 visitors per day. So I'm not sure how much is due to higher rankings or more content. As regards PR it shows 0/10.

I don't think there is serious competition for my keywords. But some people are searching on these terms ~14 so far even though WordTracker says nobody searched on these words. I am not serious about these keywords either since only my main page is optimized for these. The other pages target the article titles.

I was serious about the main subject of the site and used this as a way to demonstrate how to rank high in search engines. I think this is helpfull in amongst a sea of bad information.

I am reluctant to search on my own subject keywords but I tried it for one in quotes and found it at #1 so I think what I am doing is working OK.

Now I think I know how to get into the top ten search results for any site since I did it so many times myself.

I added your link to the CargoShip. The page is a PR3.
