Using a somewhat loose terminology of cacophony, a discordant and meaningless mixture, it certainly fits my latest domain.

ahem...

The idea behind http://z54.org/ was to have a domain where I could place sites I had worked on, but had no intention of getting a domain for them (my domian collection is large enough as it is), plus to have a place where I could try out different scripts to see what they could do.

Obviously, I could have done this with any other domain of mine, but, as chance

ahem...would have it, I found an available 3 character domain which appealed to me, so I took it.

I am trying out different scripts as subdomains.

As I try out different scripts (to be read as successfully), I will post a link to them and a sample from my domain, for anyone who may be interested in them.

The first script I am going to post about is netcard. Probably an outdated concept, but it allows visitors to post their own individual business card pages on your site.

Mine is here: http://zcards.z54.org/

Recommendations:

1) Rename the netcard.htm file to index.htm

2) Place a link to list.htm somewhere on the index page so that others can view the list of cards. (mine is at the bottom of the page). The list.htm file will be created once the first business card is posted.

It's kind of an interactive script which allows visitors to essentially get a free webpage, but the created files are very small (less than 2k, if even that) so lots of visitors can leave a business card without making a dent in your server space.

Off to try another script

Here is an arcade script I installed a few days ago: http://arcade.z54.org/

It is simply called Free Arcade Script; but you will notice that the official site for it is just a domain holder page.

I have uploaded the script to my site where you can download it here: http://trafficclose.com/downloads/scripts/arcadescript.zip

Although it is near a 27mb download, it is relative small compared to other arcade scripts I have seen, and those usually aren't free, or the script is free but you have to pay for the games.

If someone wants to have an arcade site, but doesn't want to use up a lot of resources having it, this may well work for them.

Funny you should mention this? I recently posted about my arcade where some of the high scores are still held by forum members.

I changed the site code to my own script last week and built a new page for the games that I hadn't got around to linking to. But you may get some ideas from it: http://www.readingfreeads.co.uk/games.php I think it is a simple fun page with high scores, the players name and icons. Also, the games are remotely hosted so my script is just a few K of code that I wrote myself. I anonymously hold the high score on the Simon game which is about memory. Weird.

I like it, Andy. Clean and uncluttered; which, unfortunately, the standard for arcade sites seems to be heavy and chaotic. Plus I'm rather fond of the old 80s arcade games myself.

Here is a so-called Hotscripts clone that I installed on the domain: http://zscripts.z54.org/

I have not customized it yet, but have a look around at it.

It was a relatively easy setup.

If you want it, you can download it from my site here: http://trafficclose.com/downloads/scripts/hotscriptsclone.zip (319kb)

This is not a script, but a complete martial arts turnkey site with eBooks.

The eBooks can be sold, or, as I have done, given away; as I have other affiliate sources on mine.

I have modified my webpage to disclude one of the eBooks, as it is nothing more than a photocopy, and poor at that, of a Bruce Tegner book, and is a copyright violation.

I have also added links to pages I have included which are a poster store and an Amazon dvd shop; specialized for martial arts.

You can see my page with the modifications here: http://martialarts.z54.org/

Want one?

You can download it from my site here: http://trafficclose.com/downloads/turnkeys/martial.zip (4.3mb)

*I have restructured the package to include both the original turnkey and a modification I did to take out the eBook that was a copyright violation.

This is a fully loaded MySpace layouts site, scripted in php.

The setup is amazingly not that difficult for the size of the site and the number of components and scripts involved.

I have set one up on my domain, but have not customized it yet: http://myspacez.z54.org/

If you want one, you can download it from my site here: http://trafficclose.com/downloads/turnkeys/myspace_cms.rar (7.49mb)

Hopefully all this is contributing to the good of the web universe rather than more duplicate content?

Eh...not really. All it is doing at present is contributing to my learning to work with php, and to the number of sub-domains my domain has.

Just two minor updates which have little to do with the topic at hand.

The homepage has been updated for z54.org

I had a simple CMS. Unfortunately, being that it, and two sub-domains, recently got hacked, I have decided to stay with HTML pages rather than using a CMS that requires a little too loose of file permissions to operate.

I might try another CMS later. The reason I went with a simple site design for now (other than the aforementioned security issue) is that I am offline until next weekend; other than a borrowed connection momentarily. I put the site together on my computer, using a free template, and uploaded it when I could borrow a connection.

The other update I touched on briefly as well. Much to everyone's chagrin Grin, I will be back online (from my own computer) in a week, when I have a cable connection installed. Although not a speedy connection (only a few times faster than dial-up), it is about half the cost of having a phone line and dial-up (as the phone line eventually became only an internet connection).
