I must admit that I am clueless about ranking my sites in the Yahoo! results. I know absolutely nothing about Yahoo! apart from they provide a great email service and a nice world news summary. All my seo activities are focussed on Google results. Any tips or advice regarding Yahoo positioning?

Hmmmm

I find my searchs on Google highly relevant most of the time, that's why I don't use any other search engines for searching. Maybe it's down to the search technique? I tend to think from a webmaster perspective and enter keywords leaving out the joining particles such as "to" and sometimes enter a phrase in quotes such as "problem with xyz laptop" to narrow down a search.

When I search on something to remind me how to code something for example, sometimes I get the answer in the text snippet of the search result without even going to the web site.

I wonder if people design differently for Yahoo! ranking? Since most of my traffic comes from Google I focus on them and still get some traffic from the others. of course you can pay Yahoo! $200 to get considered for the directory if that is what it still costs.

Google is following a monopoly to maximize their revenues through Google Adwords. This is something which is making Google lag behind other search engines like Yahoo, and MSN.

Google became popular because of its latest/accurate results. These days Google is surely aiming to deliver accurate results , but their ranking filters and algorithm can eventually hit back Google like a Boomerang because of its outdated results.

They are trying to maximize their Adwords/Adsense revenue, and to enable this they are deliberately holding back ranking of several useful websites. Whenever I have to search for some latest news, free software, free script etc etc, I have to rush immediately to MSN since it delivers latest results. Moreover MSN has emerged as a NO-ENTRY zone for Adult related websites. This will be a major boon for MSN. Their Image search is far much advance than Google  Kiss

These days even Yahoo is gaining pace over Google by delivering latest results in their search engine. Surely Google has to wake up before it is too late. Their useless filters are making life miserable for genuine websites/forums to score top rankings on Google. Moreover it will start to make life miserable for search users by restricting their search results and delivering same outdated results again and again.

If you are searching for some new stuff then try searching on MSN. I am sure you wont be dissapointed with results. Surely Google needs some hard spanking.  Tongue

Hmm that's interesting, I should use MSN more maybe. The problem with MSN though is a dislike of Microsoft by many people.

Well it was good in 2004 when it was written

But times and Search Engines move on and Yahoo has refined their technology many times since then.

Highly use of us thinks it's ok if Yahoo is not indexing their websites or webpages, Its totally wrong concept because yahoo has potential daily searchers if you skip it you are losing business. And its a great strategy!!

In SEO labs where the new Yahoo algorithm was examined, it appears that Yahoo gives more weight, compared to Google, to a page that displays more keywords. The study suggests that most of the high ranking pages generally had a higher number of keywords or keyword density in the body and title of the page. Of the top placed pages most had a keyword density of around 10%, however some of the highly ranked pages had a keyword density of around 3%. This was an indication that backlinks with anchor text played a part. Below is a chart of the on page elements Yahoo looks at and the keyword densities that make up the total keyword density of the page:

. Title - 15 to 20% (title tag is one of the more important on page elements for the new Yahoo algorithm)
. Body Text - 3%
. Meta Tags 3%
