I've been looking at those Apple Mac Mini Core Duo computers and want to know what everyone else thinks of them ? I know they won't be any good for games, but i don't play games (only on PS2). I just thought one of those mini's might give me an idea of what it's like using a Mac.

I understand you just plug in a keyboard, mouse and monitor and off you go.

if you have spare money and feel that it would be useful I see no reason not to buy it. I've always wish to get my hands on Mac either because rumors of it's stability innovative GUI and many other things which I can't check myself living here as I don't know anyone using them locally Tongue
So the only downside which I see in getting it is that Denis will be pesting you about screenshots from your workspace Grin

The problem I see is the nice price of $599.00 US dollars does not include a monitor or a keyboard. And while for a IBM clone PC the cost of a keyboard and monitor is not that much the Mac Mini requires a proprietary keyboard and monitor which may not be cheap even if they can be found used.

I thought i could just plug my LCD flat-panel monitor into it and be OK. I will have to buy a keyboard and mouse though.

BTW it's the iLife software that i want to see running.

The DVI/VGA doesn't look like the video conector on my computer to me. I guess a usb keyboard may work.

Hmmm, DVI is digital. I'll need a converter of some sort.

all newer monitors come with such plug, and there was period of time when they come with converters, not sure if they sold separately

Couldn't get a mini mac cheap enough from Ebay, so placed an order for a new one on the apple web site last night.

I'll let you know what i think of it later (when it comes in about two days time). I want to try iLife though and could do with buying a word processor for it. Does anyone know of a good word processor such as iWork or Microsoft Office, but not one that costs a fortune.

Why don't you wish to try free ones like OpenOffice? Or it's not suitable for you for some reason?

Free ones would be great, but i didn't know what you could get for a Mac. Any other suggestions for free Mac software for FTP and photo editing and things like that would be great. It would have to work on the dual core 1.66 mini mac though. Thanks.

Seems like OpenOffice come even in two flavors:
OpenOffice: http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/
and NeoOffice: http://www.neooffice.org/

Regarding photo editing I'm only aware about GIMP and Hugin for creating panoramas: http://hugin.sourceforge.net

Let me know if you find other alternatives so we'll be aware about them.
