I've decided to try and make some CD labels using SimplyMepis 6.0 Linux (SML). I don't know which programs work well so Denis or anyone else that is using Linux, I would appreciate some advice or help. Thanks in advance.

Hi Don! I didn't made CD labels for ages but know about this site which let you generate them online: http://www.aczoom.com/tools/cdinsert/
I've posted about it ages ago but this thread have lost in others, so I'm glad that you've raised this question.

BTW with some printers you can print directly on CDs with help of GIMP, it should also work for making CD covers.

Let me know how it worked and please share if you find other solutions.

Thanks Denis, I have made CD labels in the past with PaintShop Pro and some special software for them in Windows but I didn't even think about using GIMP. I'll give that a try. I found a program called kcdlabel and another one called cdlabelgen. Can't get either to run yet though. cdlabelgen requires Perl which I know nothing about. and the other needs to compiled but I don't know how to do that. It seems odd to me that I can't find a ready made kcdlabel since it is a kde designed program.

Isn't making CD labels as simple as purchasing the CD adhesive label sheets from places like Staples, Office World etc and following the instructions that come with the pack you purchased? For my own home burnt discs I simply write on the disc with a marker pen.

If you want to distribute commercial material via the medium of CD or DVD you can use online resources provided by the duplication houses.

Not if you want to print a nice label. Then you need a program to help lay out the text and images for the printer to print on the label pages.
