When you refer to a self-powered hub, is there a power supply connected to it for power? If the hub is not powered by an external power source, a USB 2.0 compliant device will not work with the hub, and sometimes they won't work with a hub whether it is the proper hub or not; some USB devices are just that way.

Does the device work properly if you plug it into the USB port directly instead of the hub?
