This is a thread I started on another forum, not a webmaster forum, and thought it would be even more appropriate here.

Don't ya just love completely gratuitous self-promotion? What a coincidence, me too.  Grin

Let's take it one step further though and turn it into show and tell.

Well this thread is designed to give you the opportunity to not only show off a banner you use for your site, but to also link the banner.

*Also note that if some of you don't have a banner but would like one, I can provide a collection of blank banners (with images, but you add the text), for free, which you can customize for your site.

Example: This is a blank banner commonly available which I customized for one of my newest sites.

Don't ya just love how I sneakily worked that one in.

This is a banner which I put together, using PhotoImpact, for my CargoShip site. I am going to try to put a new background on it which matches the site background better, as the background that is presently on it is the corny background I originally had on the site.

This is one which I put together for a site I built for someone else using some of the images from the site on the banner, again using PhotoImpact (I took all of the shots myself with an inexpensive digital camera; I still need to edit some of that glare out of there, but I am being lazy).

I have some more, but I'll pass on showing them as they are for adult sites. Shocked

If you don't know how to live link an image, just create your standard url link, then in the place where you would normally place text for the link, between the url tags, place your image tags instead.

Now it's time for you to show off some of your banners, and I know that you can do a lot better than I did.

It's been along time since I designed any banners but I have just finished integrating a big 3rd-party banner into the header of a site. This is a good example of how rather than designing your own logo and header graphic for your site, you can use somebody else's banner instead: http://www.lotterytips.co.uk

Of course a standard-sized 468x60 pixel banner is too small for a header but it may be ok if it looks ok when magnified via the image width and height html attributes. But I found that the graphic quality tends to degrade too much. Another approach is to have a 60 pixel height header and fill the background of the header with a thin piece of the banner's right hand edge and using that as the background image repeated in the x-plane e.g. with the css code: background: url(thin-vertical-slice.png) repeat-x; Then maybe add a catch-phase below the banner to give the header some more depth.

Have you used your photos as a backdrop for banner ads Menard? I got some nice results when I did this for website header graphics.

Here is my Stone Henge banner example I used a lighting effect in PSP7 for the sun effect.

Actually I have not; not yet anyway. I don't have any of my photos that would fit with my sites very well, but some landmark photos may fit well with the distributing site.
