Show us best and most innovative favicon you've seen on the web animated or static. Just remember it shouldn't be offensive.
You can submit upto 3 favicons images.
We'll pick one like most next Monday and award the winner.

Looking forward to see cool icons soon  Roll Eyes

And good luck to our participants!  Wink

Hi Smurfie! It's not really what we were looking for. By favicon I've mean icons specially made to be displayed in address field in Mozilla, Netscape and Firefox browsers or in Favorite Links(I hope that remember name correctly) in Internet browser.
Here are two examples of favicons:
http://www.pharos-search.com/favicon.ico
http://forum.weblamp.net/favicon.ico

So if you've spot any nice ones, post upto 3 of them here.

PS sorry for editing your post and changing image to URL, it just make post loading about one minute Tongue

Well, it ain't innovative, but it's mine, and it shows up real well.

Uh, it does look smaller as a favicon file. Grin

You know where you can find it: http://zhorkow.com/

I have just thrown it into the root directory, so it may not show outside of IE.

I posted this, along with a few avatars I designed, on another forum (and I liked my avatars...sniff...sniff), but everybody universally preferred the cleaner look of this simple design over everything else. I did this with two free programs: Blaiz Enterprises Text Effects, and Harmware's sTile.

Wish you luck in our challenge! Smiley

Nice looking image Menard. I think 16x16 pixels is too restrictive so an upper limit of say 100x100 pixels allows for more creativity. Above that and we may get stuff that is too good  Wink

Here's one I knocked up at 32x32 pixels resolution:

I'm thinking to use it for the favicon of one of my sites even though it doesn't portray any particular meaning. I don't think I'm eligible to win any prizes though as an insider. But anyway, Menard's will be hard to beat, but that shouldn't stop you entering.

It's easy to make these icons, just fire up a paint program and play with the tools. Then save it as ideally PNG to avoid losing quality or GIF or JPEG (.jpg) Avoid bitmaps for the web. I upload my images to hosting but you can use free online image hosting sites. Come on, let's see your efforts...

Well, there are so many of these great favicons out there..... It is pretty difficult to choose the three best of them....... Here are the three which I like

1) - This favicon is used by TemplateMonster. They have just made it like their logo but it suits their site pretty much.

2) - This is used by www.getafreelancer.com and looks great.

3) - This one is use by www.mikeindustries.com/blog It suits the name of the site and looks great.......

Wow! Is that a favicon? Yin and Yanga!

Some great entries here! Thanks people.

The following is just some blurb related to this contest...

I was thinking that a contest widget would be a great idea where people can drag and drop contest entries from their computer desktop. I don't know how feasible this is but I would pay somebody $100 for ownership rights to a widget that did this i.e. converted any drag and drop content from web surfers onto a web page and into data that I can store in my database on LAMP hosting. I don't know how you would code this, something involving AJAX maybe?

Maybe the problem is difficulty in entering the competition? This is where the photo buckets of the web mop up IMHO.

Incidentally, you check up on tons of newly created favicons here: http://www.html-kit.com/favicon/gallery/

But as I post, in my time zone (GMT+9) the contest is already over but if you jump on a plane and head west you could still enter  Grin

btw I did have some major brain wave a while ago involving favicons. http://www.urgentclick.com/favicon-friends/ If you have a bunch of webmaster friends and too many favicons to deal with, this could be a way to sleep soundly at night!

It's very nice. How many frames does it use? I noticed it is an animated gif.

welcome to forums dominicanpapi82! I've saw your picture number of times, man who draw it have really good imagination, I like it a lot. Regarding converting it favicon it's possible, as even if watch this picture Firefox you'll see animated favicon on the tab header, but unfortunately because of size it looks pretty messy.

Manu, you've got some nice founds, I especially enjoy favicon of TemplateMonster, they really make some interesting use of 32 pixel Wink

Wish you luck folks! we'll back soon with winner name.
